Posted by: thepinetree on 03/18/2009 10:16 PM
Huntington Lake, CA...Sierra Summit Ski Team played host to another USSA Central Series Farwest Ski Race a few weeks back. This time a large field of competitors took to the longest course of the year. Their Super G and Big G courses ran almost 3/4 of a mile. It was a weekend to breakout the long sticks and get ready to go fly. This twisty, long and fast course had the young racers skiing fast and furious. In addition to Bear Valley, Dodge Ridge, Badger Pass & Sierra Summit two additional teams swelled the ranks of the ranks of an already large field. Team Mountain High from Wrightwood, CA, and the Snow Summit team from Big Bear Lake...

Bret Harte Swim Team vs. Amador and Argonaut~by Barb Hecocks

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 03/16/2009 01:59 PM
"It was a hard meet. We were missing some key swimmers due to illness. In addition to that, we couldn’t catch a break with the stroke and turn judge. In all of the Bret Harte Swim Team’s history (9 years), coach Karla St. Louis has never received more than 2 DQ’s. We had 9 at this meet - very disheartening. It was the school of hard knocks for the new swimmers"....

Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Cross Country played host to the 36th Annual Bjornloppet (Bear Race is the rough translation). There were 10k and 20k events on the beautiful, world class Bear Valley Meadow course. The 20k on Saturday and the 10k on Sunday were taken by Peter Mayfield with local Bear Valley racer and last year's winner Scott Fairman crossing in the second spot both days. Guy Schuman slid into first place in the 10k on Saturday with the flying female, 13 year old, Junior Olympic Bound, Raylene Chew sped into the second overall position. The weather was perfect and the times were fast. The Bjornloppet is a great race for anyone who wants to experience what cross country skiing is about....

New Melones Fishing Report for March 3rd, 2009 and Sunday Seminar Schedule~By Glory Hole Sports

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 03/03/2009 11:00 AM
Greetings! Well, as I sit here typing this, the rain is coming down in buckets, filling up our lake (and our parking lot!). New Melones has really been rising- it came up three feet last week, and I'm sure it will come up some more this week, with all this rain! We had a great seminar this weekend. Fred Thomasen gave a great, informative seminar- 70 people attended- a great turnout, despite the weather. We gave away some goodies to some lucky winners, including a Plano tackle box worth $60 and a Shimano baitcasting reel valued at $249...

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 02/26/2009 11:39 PM
Calaveras County, CA....The Bret Harte Bullfrogs lost a hard fought game to the #4 ranked, division IV, San Juan Spartans of Citrus Heights last night 48-45. Bret Harte played exceptional defense to stay within reach of the Spartans all night long and was leading by 2 with less than a minute to go. Even though they ended up losing by 3 BH earned the respect of the opposing coaching staff and went out playing the way we all knew they could.

Bear Valley's 2nd Giant Slalom and Race Clinic Held Last Weekend ~With Video Enclosed By John Hamilton

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/24/2009 02:10 PM
Bear Valley, CA...This last weekend Bear Valley held the Second of their Giant Slalom Races for the winter season. The field was filled with young members of the Bear Valley Development Teams, Coaches & Ski Instructors and local hot shots. These races are a good way for the young skiers to test their progress against their peers and also see if they would like to make the jump to the Bear Valley Race Team. The fastest time of the day was turned in by first year Devo Coach Zac Comstock. As some of you may recall Zac made it all the way to the Junior Olympics last year as a J3 racer. This year he has hung up his speed suit to focus on teaching the next generation of skiers. Coming in second by only a few hundredths of a second was local Bear Valley legend Mark Phillips. Mark proved he can still give the youngsters a run for their money even though he is now...
