Lake Alpine has been excellent fishing this past week as DFG stepped up fish plants. Bait casters should try Gulp Power Eggs, Gulp Power Bait, Floating Power Eggs, Gulp Nightcrawlers, inflated nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs on a 24" to 30" leader using a sliding sinker. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Panther Martin spinners, and Rooster Tails. Trollers should try Apex, Needlefish, Glo Bugs, Triple Teazers, and Wedding Rings behind a small dodger tipped either with a nightcrawler or a Gulp Nightcrawler. You must troll slow, 1 to 1.2 mph. Fly fishermen have been using woolly buggers, stone fly nymphs, ants, adams, stimulators and bead head nymphs. Try using a sinking fly line for better success.....

Trout: bank angling at Melones is done for the season- head to local creeks, or better yet, to higher elevation lakes such as Alpine or Spicer. Night fishing for trout under a light has started this week. Try dropping a submersible light 20 feet deep and fish 30-50 feet deep with a crawler or crawler/Powerbait combo. Mark Imperial and Ryan Gonzalez from Stockton have this method down to a science, including using the moon phases as well as hitting the creek channels at the right time to catch both their limits at 36 feet deep with...... |
