Bear Valley, CA....Come celebrate the thrill of human powered recreation in the beautiful High Sierra village of Bear Valley, located at 7,000 feet along scenic Highway 4 between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. A variety of outdoor activities including rock climbing, road cycling, mountain biking, flatwater kayaking, hiking and trail running will blend into an exciting weekend of adventure, education, competition and fun. Calaveras Sliders Going to the Nationals! |

The Calaveras Sliders, 14 and under Girls Softball Team has qualified for the A.S.A. National Softball Tournament in Salem, OR from July 28~August 3rd, 2008. Please help them get there! They will also be holding a fundraiser, Calaveras Sliders Tri-Tip Dinner and Dance on Saturday July 19, social hour, 6 p.m., dinner, 7 p.m. and dancing begins at 8 p.m., Jenny Lind Veterans Memorial Hall, 189 Pine St., Valley Springs, fundraiser to help the Calaveras Sliders 14 and under girls softball team travel to the A.S.A. Western National Softball....

Ione, CA....On July 9th the Murphys Dolphins swam against the Valley Springs Stingrays and came out on top. Everyone of the Murphys Dolphins came in first or second place during their races. On July 11th the Murphys Dolphins swam against the Ione Marlins. Each swimmer swam their hardest to add points to their teams final score. For the 6 and under group, Sewell Hatcher came is first in free style and had a final time of 38.39. For the girls 7-8 age group, Elise MacDonald, Kaya Fishman, Kate Roberts, Katarina Reidel came is first place in the medley relay with a final time of 2:14. Attached is the scores from both meets.......

Lake Alpine has been excellent fishing due to recent trout plants. The dock is in and you are able to launch easily. Trollers should try Apex, Needlefish, and Rapala's behind a small dodger tipped with a nightcrawler or try a flasher nightcrawler combo. Fly fishermen should try woolly buggers, flying ants, nymphs, and sparrow nymphs. Bank fishermen should try nightcrawlers, Gulp Power Eggs, Gulp Power Bait, Gulp Nightcrawlers, floating Power Eggs,and salmon eggs. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Panther Martin spinners, and Rooster Tails.....

Water Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 1,287,680 acre-feet of water. The lake water level dropped two feet last week and is at 977 ft. above sea level and 111 ft. from full capacity. Water in the main lake is approximately 76-79 degrees. Water is gin clear in the main lake, with a strong mud line forming at shore. ....

Vallecito, CA....The 'Twisted' 5k , 10k, & Half Marathon came to the "Twisted Empire". Presented by Twisted Oak Winery and On Your Mark Events. 140 runners joined Twisted Oak and On Your Mark Events for the 21st Annual Hernia Hill 5K, 10K, and Half-Marathon. The Hernia Hill started in 1988. This was the first ever "On Your Mark Events," event held at Twisted Oak in Vallecito! The twisted runners took their mark and headed for the finish line at 8am this morning........

Recognized as one of the premier cycling events in the West, the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce, the 28th Anniversary of the Death Ride will take place on July 12th. Located in the stunning California Alps, the Death Ride course covers the traditional five mountain passes. This super challenging course includes climbing both sides of Monitor Pass, both sides of Ebbetts Pass, and the final climb up the east side of Carson Pass. Cyclists will start and finish at Turtle Rock Park, located two miles north of Markleeville, CA......

Murphys, CA.....The Frogarazzi were out in force again Saturday Morning. They were at the S.N.A.C Painted Frog of Calaveras County unveiling. The festivities were held at their New General Store in downtown Murphys. The artist of this frog was Bob Carabas and he did a wonderful job capturing the essence of what S.N.A.C and The Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center wanted to portray in this project. CSERC is the Non-Profit will be the beneficiary of the October Frog Auction for this frog. If you would like to visit this wonderful expression of Frogliness it is located in the Breezeway next to The General Store...
