Keep Your Eye On The Ball ~By Jason Buck |
Posted by: thepinetree on 03/27/2009 06:54 AM
|
Angels Camp, CA...Local Photographer Jason Buck sent us a really stunning photo. It is of a young Bret Harte Baseball player watching a pitch cross the plate just a smidgen too low to be called a strike or to take a swat at. Here's what Jason said "I was shooting at 1/500th of a second and the ball/bat were still a blur. Then I found the right combination. ISO: 1000, F5.6, 1/2500th of a second. He had a good eye since the ball is obviously a 'ball' (not in the strike Zone). Notice how clear the stitching is on the ball...

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/18/2009 10:16 PM
|
Huntington Lake, CA...Sierra Summit Ski Team played host to another USSA Central Series Farwest Ski Race a few weeks back. This time a large field of competitors took to the longest course of the year. Their Super G and Big G courses ran almost 3/4 of a mile. It was a weekend to breakout the long sticks and get ready to go fly. This twisty, long and fast course had the young racers skiing fast and furious. In addition to Bear Valley, Dodge Ridge, Badger Pass & Sierra Summit two additional teams swelled the ranks of the ranks of an already large field. Team Mountain High from Wrightwood, CA, and the Snow Summit team from Big Bear Lake...

Bret Harte Swim Team vs. Amador and Argonaut~by Barb Hecocks |
Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 03/16/2009 01:59 PM
|
"It was a hard meet. We were missing some key swimmers due to illness. In addition to that, we couldn’t catch a break with the stroke and turn judge. In all of the Bret Harte Swim Team’s history (9 years), coach Karla St. Louis has never received more than 2 DQ’s. We had 9 at this meet - very disheartening. It was the school of hard knocks for the new swimmers"....

Greetings! Well, as I sit here typing this, the rain is coming down in buckets, filling up our lake (and our parking lot!). New Melones has really been rising- it came up three feet last week, and I'm sure it will come up some more this week, with all this rain! We had a great seminar this weekend. Fred Thomasen gave a great, informative seminar- 70 people attended- a great turnout, despite the weather. We gave away some goodies to some lucky winners, including a Plano tackle box worth $60 and a Shimano baitcasting reel valued at $249...

The Bullfrogs Lost a Hard Fight!~by Jeff Rasmussen |
Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 02/26/2009 11:39 PM
|
Calaveras County, CA....The Bret Harte Bullfrogs lost a hard fought game to the #4 ranked, division IV, San Juan Spartans of Citrus Heights last night 48-45. Bret Harte played exceptional defense to stay within reach of the Spartans all night long and was leading by 2 with less than a minute to go. Even though they ended up losing by 3 BH earned the respect of the opposing coaching staff and went out playing the way we all knew they could.
