New Melones Lake Fishing Report for Week of July 28th, 2009~by Glory Hole Sports |

Fishing Report...Trout: bank fishing at Melones is done for the season. Night fishing for trout under a submersible light has been great. Sink your light 20 feet deep and fish 30-50 feet deep with a crawler or crawler/Powerbait combo. To learn more about this fun was of fishing, attend our seminar this Sunday. Kokanee: Is red hot for anglers who are on the water at dawn, so get up early. Easy limits of small but fat 14"-16" fish are being caught. Fish the main lake near the spillway, the dam or Rose Island. Kokanee are moving deeper, and can be found 50-70 feet deep- deeper in the hottest part of the day. Glitterbugs micro hootchies, wiggling Hootchie Things, R & K ....

Trout: bank angling at Melones is done for the season- head to local creeks, or better yet, to higher elevation lakes such as Alpine or Spicer. Night fishing for trout under a light has started this week. Try dropping a submersible light 20 feet deep and fish 30-50 feet deep with a crawler or crawler/Powerbait combo. Mark Imperial and Ryan Gonzalez from Stockton have this method down to a science, including using the moon phases as well as hitting the creek channels at the right time to catch both their limits at 36 feet deep with...... |

Lake Alpine has been recently planted and fishermen are catching fish. Bait casters should try Gulp Power Eggs, Gulp Power Bait, Floating Power Eggs, Gulp Nightcrawlers, inflated nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs on a 24" to 30" leader using a sliding sinker. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Panther Martin spinners, and Rooster Tails. Trollers should try Apex, Needlefish, Glo Bugs, and Wedding Rings behind a small dodger tipped either with a nightcrawler or a Gulp Nightcrawler. Fly fishermen have been using woolly buggers, stone fly nymphs, ants, adams, stimulators and bead head nymphs....

Calaveras Swim Team hosted the Ione Marlins on Monday! |

The Calaveras Swim Team Calaveras Pride swam against the Ione Marlins Monday. Calaveras did very well with over 30 1st place swimmers. Some of our first place winners were; Freestyle Sarah McGary, Beth Gibson, & Dana Jump. Backstroke; Sarah McGary, Dana Jump, Devon Ghio & Brittney Siria. Breaststroke; Joie Rawlins, Rebecca Conley, Wayne Batchelor, & Jacob Youngblood. Fly; Vanessa Ray & Brittney Siria. Our multiple event winners....

Calaveras Swim Team hosted the Murphys Dolphins on Wednesday! |

The Calaveras County Swim Team Calaveras Pride swam against the Murphys Dolphins Wednesday. Calaveras did very well with over 60 percent of our swimmers placing in the top three. Some of our first place winners were; Freestyle Bowie Wood, Devon Ghio, Lucas Youngblood. Joie Rawlins & Wayne Batchelor 1st place Breaststroke. Vanessa Ray 1st place Freestyle & Breaststroke. Our multiple event winners are; Dana Jump 1st place Freestyle & Backstroke. Jessica Conley 1st place Freestyle, Fly and IM. Calaveras also....

The Murphys Dolphins swam against a new Calaveras County team on Wednesday afternoon, Calaveras Pride. The Murphys Dolphins did very well. Among some of the winners are: Left to right: Nicole Huddy, Riley Preston, Erika Rasmusen & Haley Warner. Calaveras Pride took 1st place in both the Free Relay and Medley Relay.
