Week Three Op-Ed By Former Calaveras County Supervisor Tom Tryon On The "War On Drugs"

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/21/2017 09:07 AM
Angels Camp, CA....Letter written by Tom Tryon to Wayne LaPierre of the National Rifle Association: I am in receipt of your letter and wish to give you my response for not providing further support for your Legislative agenda. First, let me state I am unabashedly a Libertarian. I strongly believe in economic liberty, civil liberty and a small, constrained government. I am not only an adamant supporter of the Second Amendment guarantees but of the entire Bill of Rights. Therein lies my concern. I have the distinct impression that the N.R.A. not only does not cherish the Second Amendment guarantees but also does not hold sacred the fundamental principles of liberty. The Second Amendment is only worth defending in its capacity as one of the principal foundation blocks of liberty; and as the Second Amendment represents the inalienable right of the citizenry to self defense. The N.R.A. seems more intent on furthering the Republican agenda of National Fascism than in defending the Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment. I refer in general to the drug phobia as preached by the leadership and specifically to the article by Harlon Carter of September 1989. We are in critical need of the Second Amendment to prevent Harlon Carter’s vision from becoming a reality. The leadership must certainly consist of brain dead Republicans if that leadership is unable to make the positive association between the “War on Drugs”, increases in violent crime and increases in the demands for gun control.

What's in the future for Calaveras? ~ Letter To Editor By Mark Clark

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/14/2017 08:56 AM
Mountain Ranch, CA... Here we go again. A new election with commercial cultivation is once again on the table. The growers are going to keep on with their argument that they are all about their community and that they are doing mankind a service by providing the miracle drug, marijuana. Their sacrifice is going to provide millions to the county and we will all live in a Garden of Eden.

Week Two Op-Ed By Former Calaveras County Supervisor Tom Tryon On The "War On Drugs"

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/13/2017 01:09 PM
Angels Camp, CA....Letter written by Tom Tryon to the Citizens of Calaveras County in the summer of 1985: In recent weeks I have been asked by many of my constituents to respond to statements I have made as a County Supervisor regarding the legalization of illicit drugs. Let me state emphatically I am not in favor of drug usage. I am only interested in trying to minimize the human tragedy that exists within our current policies. If we look at the historical reasons for placing many of the drugs in an illegal classification, the reasons are racial bigotry against particular ethnic minorities. Heroin laws were directed against the Chinese; marijuana laws against the Mexicans in the Southwest; and cocaine laws against Blacks in the South. These drugs were their drugs of cultural preference over the alcohol preferred by the white majority. The government assumed a very important role with the passage of the Harrison Narcotics Act of 1914. The Chief of Narcotics Enforcement was Harry Anslinger who constantly lobbied for a more activist government role, for inclusion of additional drugs to the list of illegal drugs, and for the expansion of his department. Unfortunately, he achieved unlimited success and with that success the drug problem has grown to epidemic proportions.

Letter To The Editor Urging Yes On Measure B ~ By Vicky Reinke

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/07/2017 02:44 PM
Angels Camp, CA...It is important to understand who we are dealing with when it comes to the marijuana industry. They are an all cash huge profit business with large amounts of money and will stop at nothing to get their way. They do not want the good citizens of Calaveras to have a chance to vote on whether or not to ban commercial marijuana activities. Measure B is set for a special all mail-in ballot election. Ballots are to go out the week of April 3rd to be returned to the county registrar by May 2nd This is going to be an opportunity for the people of Calaveras to vote on whether they support a ban on all commercial marijuana activities in Calaveras County, with the exception of personal grows.

Week One Op-Ed By Former Calaveras County Supervisor Tom Tryon On The "War On Drugs"

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/06/2017 11:26 AM
Angels Camp, CA....After being elected to the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors I assumed office in January of 1985. A recall effort was initiated against me in the summer of 1985. The recall effort was launched due to my opposition to the “War on Drugs”, most particularly Marijuana. The issues of the summer of 1985 are the same issues we are discussing today concerning the legalization of Cannabis and Measure B on the special election ballot. I urge the good citizens of Calaveras County to vote NO on Measure B. I would also encourage the Board of Supervisors to adopt a permanent ordinance for cannabis legalization which addresses and corrects the valid complaints concerning the emergency ordinance. There will be a five to six week printing of documents concerning the issues involved in the recall effort of 1985.

Why Your Voice, The Voice Of Small Towns & Villages Matters Now More Than Ever! ~ By John Hamilton

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/06/2017 11:43 PM
Arnold, CA...First and foremost I would like to say Thank You!!! Thank you for your visits to our news outlets! Thank you also for living here, visiting here, working here, running businesses here and caring about our area, your friends, neighbors, communities and country!! For over 12 years now it has been an honor to cover, promote & be a part of one of the greatest areas on the planet. We know that for many of you if you moved it would be possible to have higher incomes, better career paths and what most living in major metropolitan markets view as “success”. You choose to live here in many instances for the intangibles that become part of the life experiences that make living here worth more than the “benefits” of living elsewhere.

"Tom’s World," An Column Exploring The Parallel Universe Of Representative McClintock ~ By David Vassar

Posted by: News_Desk on 02/27/2017 11:12 AM
Calaveras County, CA...“Tom’s World” is the 4th Congressional District of California stretching from Lake Tahoe in the North to Yosemite in the South, including most of the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada. It’s a reliably Red District where Donald Trump won 54% of all votes cast in 2016 and Tom won 63%. Tom won his first election in 2008 and has won four since. Tom’s World is a safe Republican seat in a state that elected Hillary Clinton by more than 4.5 million votes. I know Tom’s World rather well because unlike Tom, I actually live in the Congressional District that he represents.

Reflections On Congressman McClintock’s Recent Roseville Town Hall meeting ~ A Letter To The Editor By Ann Bowler

Posted by: News_Desk on 02/09/2017 03:42 PM
Roseville, CA...We attended Congressman McClintock’s recent Roseville town hall meeting. Newspapers quoted our Congressman calling those who attended "anarchists." We knew at least 50 of the people there and that statement couldn't be farther from the truth; we knew teachers, social workers, lawyers, photographers, business owners, college professors, counselors, grant writers and other professionals, all good people and good neighbors. We were not there to riot! We were there to get answers to real questions. It is safe to say that everyone who attended did so because they are deeply concerned with the direction our country is taking and are afraid for what lies ahead.

Tariffs Are Good For Votes But Bad For Economy & Jobs! ~ Letter To The Editor By Al Segalla

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/23/2017 03:08 PM
Copperopolis, CA...It seems protective tariffs are great for getting votes but horrible for the economy and jobs, according to the famous economist Milton Friedman. Why is that? Most of western civilization holds the concept human beings have natural rights. This is also the bases of Common Law. In our country, we have a Constitution that identifies these rights as Life, Liberty and Property. All trade and private contracts rest on the rights of Liberty and Property. In all willing transactions, both parties gain, resulting in prosperity and jobs.
