Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians Supports Holiday Toy Drive with $20,000 Donation |

Jackson, CA...The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians is proud to support this year’s Matt Scott Racing/Amador County Sheriff’s Department Holiday Toy Drive with a $20,000 donation to help families in need in Amador County. “On behalf of the Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians, it is an honor to have the ability to support this year’s Holiday Toy Drive,” said Crystal Jack, CEO of Jackson Rancheria. “The Tribe is committed to coming together to support the community and we are hopeful that this contribution will make the holiday season brighter for families in need. Stockton Man Dies in Fatal Hwy 49 Collision |

Jackson, CA...A Stockton man was driving a Honda southbound on SR-49 north of Old Hwy 49, at a high rate of speed. A Pine Grove woman was driving her Toyota northbound on SR-49 north of Old Hwy 49, at a stated speed of 45-50 mph. The Honda driver allowed his vehicle to drift off the west roadway edge of SR-49. He then abruptly steered it to the left, across the double yellow lines, into the Toyota's direct path of travel. She applied the Toyota's brakes but was unable to avoid a collision with the Honda.

Caldor Fire Closure Order Lifted at Lake Tahoe |

South Lake Tahoe, CA...Nov. 17, 2021 – The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has lifted the Caldor Fire closure order effective Wed., Nov. 17, 2021. LTBMU staff have mitigated immediate hazard trees along roads and trails within the Caldor Fire area, but the public should be aware that many hazards still exist including fire-weakened trees and smoldering pockets of fuel. The LTBMU recommends that anyone accessing the Caldor Fire area exercise caution as hazards will continue to be present over the next 5 to 10 years.

Hospice of Amador & Calaveras Awarded Grant from Calaveras Community Foundation Grant to Fund Respite Care Program in Calaveras County |

Jackson, CA...Hospice of Amador & Calaveras has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Calaveras Community Foundation to fund the agency’s respite care program for Calaveras County patients and families. The announcement was made that Hospice of Amador & Calaveras would be one of 17 recipients to receive a portion of the $110,854 awarded in this year’s funding cycle.

Sacramento Woman Lost Her Life in Fatal Amador County Collision |

Jackson, CA...11/06/2021, at approximately 1626 hours, CHP Stockton Communications Center received reports of a multiple vehicle traffic collision on State Route 16, west of Latrobe Road, within unincorporated Amador County. Several agencies including CHP-Amador, CALFIRE, Amador Fire, and the Amador County Sheriff Department responded to the collision. Upon arrival of emergency responders, three involved vehicles were located at the collision scene.

73 Year Old Woman Killed in Big Rig vs Pedestrian Collision in Jackson |

Jackson, CA...On Wednesday November 3, 2021, at approximately 9:15 am, the Jackson Police Department was dispatched to vehicle vs. pedestrian collision in the area of the Highway 49 and Highway 88 intersection. Upon arrival, a 73-year-old female (name being withheld pending next of kin notification) was found deceased in the roadway.

Annual Prescribed Fire Operations to Begin Soon on the Eldorado National Forest |

Placerville, CA...With the change in weather the Eldorado National Forest will switch its focus from wildfires to prescribed burning as weather conditions and resources allow. Beginning in November, fire managers will continue with the annual prescribed burn program.
