Early Morning Hwy 49 Collision Takes Life of 26 Year Old |

Jackson, CA...Sad family notifications are underway for a fatal collision that happened early this morning on Hwy 49. On 10-07-2021, at approximately 0028 hours, a California Highway Patrol unit from the Amador area office was dispatched to a traffic collision that occurred on SR-49 south of Argonaut Lane. Upon CHP arrival, the officers observed a Black Nissan Versa down the dirt and grass embankment to the east of SR-49. The Nissan had major traffic collision damage to the front, rear and sides. Officers approached the Nissan and observed a white male slumped over the steering wheel and unconscious.

Jackson, CA...The Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge has once again hit a hole-in-one for Hospice of Amador & Calaveras at the 2nd Annual Dan Leary Memorial Golf Tournament held June 14th at Sequoia Woods Country Club. This year, Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge Golf Committee members presented a check—the most ever raised at this tournament—for $17,403. Accepting the check were Hospice team members Wendy Mathis and Jenny Hunt.

It doesn't look to be enough moisture to end the fire season or put a dent in the drought but we will gladly take it. Caldor Post-Fire BAER Soil Burn Severity Map Released |

Placerville, CA...USDA Forest Service Burned Area Emergency Response Team (BAER) specialists recently completed their data gathering and analysis of the Caldor burned area to produce a Soil Burn Severity (SBS) map of the 218,952-acre fire.

South Lake Tahoe, CA....Highway 50 fully opened to the public at 8am this morning. No permits will be needed for residents to gain access to properties not included on forest service land. If your property is on forest service land, please contact the forest service for access details.

97 New Covid Cases & Another Death in Amador County |

Amador County, CA...Amador County Public Health reports 97 more individuals with COVID-19 since last Tuesday’s update, of whom 82.5% were unvaccinated. The cases include 26 children under the age of 18 years, 39 age 18-49, 13 age 50-64, and 19 age 65 and above. Since January 1, 2021, confirmed cases of COVID-19 total 1,745. There are currently 124 active cases. Investigation has also confirmed 1 additional death due to COVID-19: a male in his 70s. The County website now includes an epi curve bar graph representing Amador county resident cases. The vaccines continue to be very effective at preventing serious illness and death. Of the eleven (8 Amador residents and 3 from other counties) patients hospitalized locally with COVID-19, only one was fully vaccinated. Statewide, there is more than a 10-fold increased risk of hospitalization and nearly a 15-fold increased risk of death among people who are unvaccinated.
