CAL FIRE Suspends Burn Permits US Forest Service Initiates Fire Restrictions

Placerville/Camino/South Lake Tahoe - With one of the driest winters on record, vegetation is drying earlier and the fire danger is rising. Beginning on June 17, 2013 CAL FIRE’s Amador-El Dorado- Sacramento Unit will suspend dooryard burning permits and the Forest Service will begin fire restrictions in portions of Eldorado National Forest. Fire restrictions in the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin on July 1...

Sierra Pacific Foundation Awards $518,542 in Scholarships

Anderson, CA -- The Sierra Pacific Foundation, the philanthropic organization founded by the Emmerson Family, recently marked its thirty-fourth year in granting scholarships to dependent children of Sierra Pacific Industries’ employees. This year 203 students will collectively receive $518,542 to attend colleges, universities and trade schools during the 2013-2014 school year. Recipients are eligible for the scholarship for four years and are sometimes granted a 5th year based on their school and degree program....

Amador & Calaveras, CA...Bank of America Grant aims to provide employment support and employment opportunities to those with developmental disabilities in Amador and Calaveras counties. The Arc of Amador and Calaveras, a non-profit organization that serves adults with developmental disabilities, announced today it is the recipient of a $5,000.00 grant from Bank of America. The grant aims to enhance the current Supported Employment Programs within Amador and Calaveras counties while increasing opportunities for persons served and broadening The Arc’s reach to employers while deepening The Arc’s impact to service. The program will continue to provide a range of services to help stakeholders develop skills essential for workforce success. Additionally, the program allows stakeholders the opportunity to discuss various careers based on their interests and talents, and determine the corresponding workforce goals that best fit their need for ultimate success...

San Andreas, CA....Last month Central Sierra Connect, Broadband Providers, Emergency and Law Enforcement Personal met at the Calaveras County Main library. With increased broadband infrastructure coming to our area it can not only provide increased productivity and options for local businesses but for Law Enforcement and First Responders. Some local providers like Volcano Telephone are providing WiFi Hotspots in some very rural areas that Personnel can use. Amador Learning Center Opens

Sutter Creek, CA...Amador Community College Foundation announces the opening of the Amador Learning Center. The center is located at 10877 Conductor Blvd., Suite 700 in Sutter Creek A ribbon cutting and open house was held on May 21. Amador Centers for Higher Learning was founded by Amador Community College Foundation to advocate, facilitate, and support sustainable higher education in Amador County. According to foundation spokesperson Karen Dickerson: “We look forward to showcasing our college center where you can earn degrees, certificates and /or complete college transfer programs online.”
