Bret Harte Swam at Jackson Community Pool this past Friday in a

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/06/2014 08:25 PM
In our first true cold weather meet of the year, the Bret Harte swimmers were still able to swim well and defeat both Amador and Argonaut teams. By mid meet the scores got very close and the Bret Harte Team Captains had to huddle their team together and fire up the swimmers to finish strong and go on to win the meet. Standout swims included junior Josh Brady swimming personal bests in all 4 of his events, swimming freesytle in all three relays and the 100 yard freestyle, proving in his rookie year that he is now one of the team's top freestylers. Sophomore Katie Johnson swam the longest freestyle event for the team, the 500 yard freestyle and dropped 18 seconds off her previous time, confirming her spot as one of the top distance freestylers for the Bret Harte girls team. Another first year swimmer and one to watch is freshman Tyler Carlson; as he has moved his way into the position of third ranked butterflier for the boys team, placing and scoring points in the 100 yard butterfly...

Multi-Agency Emergency Exercise April 12 in Valley Springs and Jenny Lind

Posted by: Andy_Johnson on 04/03/2014 02:43 PM
Valley Spring, CA ...More than 100 volunteers and local emergency responders will take part in the third Annual Calaveras Emergency Exercise on Saturday, 12 April in the Valley Springs/Jenny Lind area. This exercise will test the preparedness and response of local, regional and state agencies should a real crisis occur that has the potential to overwhelm local emergency responders. The event, staged by the cooperative efforts of CALFIRE-TCU, Calaveras Consolidated Fire and Calaveras Office of Emergency Services, will focus on response plans for an actual disaster. One that would trigger a sudden influx of injured persons, media, concerned community members and test the compatibility of different public agencies (Sheriff, Fire, CHP) to not only work and communicate with each other but work and communicate with private and nongovernment organizations like the America Legion Ambulance, PG&E, Red Cross and the Calaveras Emergency Response Teams,

The Calaveras Air Fair, Fly-in and Open House April 26

Posted by: Andy_Johnson on 04/02/2014 10:22 AM
San Andreas, CA ...The Calaveras Air Fair, Fly-in and Open House is April 26at the Calaveras County Airport, four miles south of the town of San Andreas on Route 49. It’s an eclectic day of fancy planes, entertainment and a chance to take the family for a plane ride for just a few dollars. Think of it like a car show for airplanes, where plane owners from around the region fly in for the day and line up on the tarmac for spectators to admire and step inside. Local pilots will be ferrying passengers up into the sky for short rides and throughout the day and experimental and specialty planes will be performing flyovers.
