1/3 of the Homes in Calaveras County May Lack Final Inspections States Community Development Department

San Andreas, CA...Final Inspections in addition to the Budget, Flood Plain and other issues were in front of the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors today. At nearly the close of the meeting Supervisor Tryon wanted to see the Board hold a study session at a future date on the CDA's current reexamination of property records to see whether homes and other building projects have in fact had final inspections. Stephanie Moreno came in to address the Board on this topic. She mentioned that her department is charging nominal, typically under $200 fees for the final inspections and that the inspections are held to the standards of the codes which were in effect when the projects were built. A larger bombshell that came out during this discussion, may possibly be the number of homes and projects her department feels may be in need of final inspections. The CDA staff estimates that up to "1/3 of the homes in Calaveas County may need final inspection"...

Board of Supervisors are Back in Action Tuesday Morning

San Andreas, CA....Our Calaveras County Board of Supervisors are back in action Tuesday morning at 9am. Some of the agenda items being discussed are a RESOLUTION authorizing amendment to Professional Services Agreement with Weatherby-Reynolds-Fritson Engineering and Design for plan checking services, in an amount not to exceed $85,000, and extending term of existing agreement to December 31, 2008; MINUTE ORDER authorizing Board Chair to execute Standard Agreement 08-0122, between Calaveras County and CDFA, Weed Management, in an amount not to exceed $17,186.40, for Fiscal Years 2008/09; Dept. of Agriculture; RESOLUTION approving contract extension with California Forensic Medical Group, Inc., for medical services for jail inmates,; Sheriff - Board action: RESOLUTION adjusting the FY 2007-2008 budget for Calaveras County Sheriff, in the amount of $34,800.00, for payment of Kirchhoff & Associates contract; along with a BUDGET TRANSFER, for said amount, in conjunction therewith; (4/5 vote required) Sheriff; COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENCY Discussion and possible action re: the introduction/first reading of an ordinance approving revisions to Chapter 15.06 Flood Damage Prevention; Community Development Agency. San Andreas, CA....The Class of 2008 was 255 strong as they graduated last night. The stadium was filled to overflowing for all the festivities. In addition the the graduation last night Calaveras High School Principal Mike Merrill announced that he will be moving up to an administrative position in the district office and Ric Stitt the Current Vice Principal will be the new Calaveras High School principal next year. Calaveras Superintendent Jim Frost also mentioned during his comments that they are losing 32 staff members to retirement from the schools within the district. We would like to wish those staff members well as they move onto retirement. Many of the positions being filled are from past Calaveras High School Graduates. The Graduation is enclosed along with the list of Graduates.....

Heroes of Calaveras County Receive Recognition ~By Hanna Alldrin

Murphys, CA....Recently the Angels Camp-Murphys Rotary Club recognized some of the finest Law Enforcement and Fire personnel during their monthly meeting. The meeting was held at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys where guests received a lovely lunch provided by the Ironstone staff. Personnel were honored by the Rotary and their departments for going above and beyond and for the protection of their community. It was also said that without the support of their families these heroes wouldn't be able to do such a fantastic job......

Mark Twain St. Josephs To Host Summer Health Career Camp

San Andreas, CA: Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital has announced they will be hosting a Summer Health Career Camp June 23rd to 27th at the hospital campus in San Andreas. The Camp is open to a maximum of twenty high school juniors and seniors who have a desire to gain more knowledge about careers in health care. The free week-long project includes a complete orientation and tour of the facility, three days of “job shadowing” with hospital staff, networking with hospital staff and leadership at special luncheons, CPR Certification class instruction and a special student/parent graduation luncheon on Friday...
