Copperopolis, CA...Last weekend Copperoopolis Town Square was filled again for another special event. In Charity Maness's piece we posted earlier she focused on the events earlier in the day. When we stopped by the Ice Cream Eating Contest was just getting underway, CCWD Director Ed Rich was in the Dunk Tank and a Viper Club had just joined the Corvettes in displaying their rolling works of art....

Summerfest Copperopolis in Town Square was a watermelon eating, dunk tanking, water fighting, tri tip eating, good time. With the weather pushing 100 degrees, the community still turned out for what promised to be a good family fun day. And in traditional Town Square style, they pulled out all the stops and fulfilled that promise, for fun was had by all....

Copperopolis, CA....The days are long, and the work is hard, but with the outpouring of help from the community and even one Oregon resident, the library has almost completed its move. We have walls of shelving, comfortable bean bags for reading, a wonderful computer room complete with four computer stations and wireless DSL, and of course we are lucky enough to still have the same awesome, knowledgeable, and fun librarian Valerie Dean...

San Andreas, CA...The MSTJ Summer Health Career Camps are back for another great year. The first class to attend last week was honored on Friday at a graduation luncheon. The camp is for local juniors and seniors in high school that are interested in pursuing a career in health care. Copperopolis, CA...The Calaveras Arts Council kicked off its 2009 series of free Music in the Parks last night at the Copperopolis Town Square. This free concert was the first of ten this summer in various parks of Calaveras County. Last eve's Opening Night featured "Golden Bough", a trio that captures the essence and joy of traditional Irish and Scottish Celtic music -- as well as Wales, Cornwall, The Isle of Man, French Brittany and Spanish Galicia. Golden Bough even played some new music from their soon to be released CD.

Driving Under the Influence Causes Moderate Injuries to Driver and 9 Year Old, Minor Injuries to 11 Year Old |

Copperopolis, CA...On Friday we reported a solo vehicle collision at Cheyenne Road and Choctaw Road in Copperopolis. It involved a 25 year old Copperopolis man who was intoxicated while driving. He had two young children in the vehicle with him. Due to his level of intoxication, he lost control of his vehicle eventually hitting a tree. The car then started on fire. The driver and one child suffered moderate injuries, while another child suffered minor injuries. The driver will be formally charged by the DA's office for Felony DUI charges causing injury. Full CHP release enclosed....
