Murphys, CA...Sounds of the Season at Ironstone was another of those iconic holiday events. There was lots and lots of music, laughter, food and much more. The night was Narrated by Cynthia Restivo with Playing Violin by Brook Moes & Makena Clark. On the piano were Kim Plowman and Patti Hennesse and Vocals were by Supervisor Russ Thomas and Lisa Westerman. The evening also featured The Treble Makers and Percussion by David Tanner, Katie Tanner, and Tyler Combs. They played to a packed house that even even had snow at the appropriate moments...

Bear Valley, CA...The local sports programs that have spawned Olympic, World Cup, X-Games, National Championship, Junior Olympic, National and International competitors are deep into their winter training camps as they tune up for the 2008/2009 season. The Bear Valley Race team already has a win and podium finishes in some of the early season races. Age ranges on these teams are from young first graders all the way to high school age. They are next generation competitors from skiing dynasties like the Rasmussen family and children of Olympic Gold Medalists in other sports mixed with the fresh dreams of many others striving to make their mark in the athletic world. The kids may be young but this is serious stuff...

Arnold, CA...Many of you may not know that you have a business owner living in our little Calaveras County that has probably been in charge of making more candy than almost anyone on the planet. For 17 years Arnold Ace Home Center's Gary Hauer was the plant manager for See's Candy in South San Francisco and after See's he and his wife Susan were executives at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. So when Gary talks candy he knows the subject. We had the pleasure to video the Candy Making Class that Gary held last week in Arnold. San Andreas, CA...On Tuesday we stopped by the "Hobnob at the CCOG" to sample some of their great clam chowder, cookies & treats. The Hobnob was their Holiday open house and Christmas party. The Calaveras Council of Governments has done a great job this year pushing community projects forward. From the Mobility Plan in Arnold to the Bypass in Angels Camp to the community plans for Valley Springs and San Andreas the CCOG has had a busy year. One small cloud on the sunny horizon may be...

San Andreas, CA...We had the opportunity to speak with the Calaveras County County of Governments Executive Director Tim McSorely again this morning and the Angels Camp Bypass made the "Coal in Stocking" list of projects that may be affected by the Pooled Money Investment Board decision on Wednesday to suspend funding for some $4 Billion in loans for Bond backed infrastructure projects. A total of 4 local projects made the list including the Angels Camp Bypass and two CAL-FIRE projects and also an unspecified project at Bret Harte. The good news..

Credit Card Fraud Crime Prevention Advisory |

The Calaveras County Sheriffs Office has been receiving reports of increased attempts to obtain citizens' credit card information for fraudulent purposes. Many residents throughout the county have recently received phone calls by individuals posing as employees of credit card companies or financial institutions. These callers ask that people "verify" their credit card information. The Sheriffs Office warns that credit card companies and financial institutions do not initiate calls or emails requesting customers to "update" or "verify" credit card information.... |
