Copperopolis, CA....It was the Yankees vs the White Sox Today at Blackcreek Park, the Score…16/2. The Calaveras American Little League Yankees and the White Sox took the field today in high spirits after a weekend of frog jump fun. The Yankees from Angels Camp sponsored by Teichert Construction with a 1/6 record came ready to play. The White Sox from Angels Camp and Copperopolis sponsored by Jackson Insurance with a 4/4 record showed spirit. The pitching was fast and furious while the batter’s showed a sharp eye for just the right pitch. Outfield was kept busy with some fly balls, while the infield ran for plenty of grounders....

Welcome to the Country...So you’ve decided to move to the country where the county fair can be a hoppin’ good time!~by Local Author Charity Maness

In Calaveras County we have the honor and distinction of hosting the Calaveras County Jumping Frog Jubilee, a frog movement that began on May 19 and 20, 1928, on Main Street in down town Angels Camp. When out of towners shake their heads at the odd name of our fair we foothill folk are aghast that those poor souls have such a gaping hole in their literary education that they have not heard of the famous book by Mark Twain, “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.” Though shocked, we secretly feel superior in the knowledge that we have not only heard of the famous work, many of us have actually read some of the stories in the collection. ....

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/12/2010 03:17 PM
Umpqua Bank has a policy of commitment to excellence and community service through local involvement in community events, activities, and projects. With this in mind, store manager Iris Larson, recognized a need and found a way to help. With more and more of our local boys heading overseas in service of our country’s military, their need for basic supplies has become a must. Iris set up a bucket in the branch, with an article attached about a local Marine deployed to Afghanistan, in hopes that the community will help them with their collection of basic necessities for our troops. They are hoping for donations of (but not limited to): socks, hygiene products, protein bars, foot powder, water purification tablets, ......

Copperopolis Library Offers Free Adult Tutoring~by Charity Maness

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 05/04/2010 05:25 PM
The Copperopolis Library, long known for its community service efforts and perseverance to survive and succeed in the face of seemingly insurmountable budget constraints, now offers adult tutoring. Though most people that take advantage of the adult tutoring program “are attaining their GED” says Copper’s librarian attendant Valerie Dean, the library will gladly help “any adult struggling with their education.” Those that are attending online colleges for an AA degree may find it difficult to embrace a subject without one-on-one instruction or reinforcement. The library is a viable alternative to traveling miles to the satellite school in hopes of receiving help....
