Calaveras County, CA....The Painted Frogs of Calaveras is a Community Art Project sponsored by the Calaveras Chamber of Commerce. has a Fun Contest planned beginning on September 27th and and ending October 20th. Print the "Class of 2008" FROG MAP WE HAVE ENCLOSED and pay a visit to each frog site. Your map will be stamped at the site with a "frog". When you have finished visiting all of the Frog sites, drop off your map at the Calaveras Chamber of Commerce, attention Diane, no later than October 21st, with your name and phone # filled out. We will then hold a drawing for some FABULOUS PRIZES donated so generously by local businesses.... including Two Tickets to the Gala Auction, Kayak rentals from SNAC, A Free Zip Line adventure from Cave and Mine Adventures, CAMPS Dinner Gift Certificate, Golf for Foursome at Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort, Local Wines, Gift Certificates, Gift Baskets and More! The drawings will be held on October 20th. This will give you the opportunity to go and visit these lovely frogs that local artists have so put some much time and energy into and to also visit the business that has so graciously sponsored these frogs. They really are to be appreciated, especially in person:)....

Sheriff's Department Release on Copperopolis Fire and Suicide of 46 Year Old James Arno Watt

Copperopolis, CA...On 8-5-08 Calaveras County Sheriffs Department responded to a suicidal subject with a weapon who had set his house on fire. Deputies arrived and attempted to get the subject to relinquish his firearm, however, he would not. The Fire Department was unable to extinguish the fire, fearing for their safety. The Sheriffs Department called in their Hostage Negotiation Team, however, prior to their arrival, the subject took his life. The Fire Department moved in and extinguished the fire. Detectives were dispatched to the scene to continue this investigation. The case is still under investigation.

Copperopolis, CA...We have received the Fire Report on the sad fire and suicide yesterday in Copperopolis. The total damage was approximately $500,000 and the house was a total loss. Units from Copperopolis, Baseline, Standard, Arnold, San Andreas, Arnold, Murphys, Twain Harte, Altaville, Columbia Air Attack and more worked this unfortunate incident. Taylor as Interim Community Development Director at an hourly rate of $75 per actual hour worked, with no additional wage or employment benefit. UPDATE on Hwy 4 Closure from CHP Update...Hwy 4 is now open as of 4:54pm....DUI Arrest Made In Vehicle Caused Fire. Parts of Pool Station Still Without Power!

Copperopolis, CA...Just spoke with CHP Officer Castillo and this is the latest update on the Hwy 4 Closure. If you are heading East on Hwy 4 you will be detoured onto Pool Station Road towards San Andreas. West Bound Travelers will be detoured either to San Andreas and take Pool Station Rd or go over through Jamestown and take Hwy 108. Estimated Hwy 4 opening time is 5pm. The Hwy 4 closure was related to the fire this afternoon. A 32 year old Angels Camp Female was arrested for the DUI caused single vehicle crash that started the fire. Some Pool Station Residents still without power. PG&E Crews will be working to restore power as soon as access issues have been resolved. The CHP release is enclosed...

Copperopolis, CA....Fire crews are responding to a fire in Copperopolis at Pool Station Road. Updates to comes as crews arrive on scene...UPDATE #1....2:08pm....Vehicle Collision, Non Injury, Blocking Lane. Please avoid the area if possible. Apparently the fire is spreading and was caused by the motor vehicle accident. Traffic at Hwy and Pool Station Road near Appalloosa is closed and being diverted. UPDATE #2....2:15pm...No updates as of size yet. John and Hanna are on scene now. UPDATE #3...2:20pm...Estimated 40-50 acres in size according to Lisa Williams. Air assets and other personnel on scene. UPDATE #4...2:49pm...Hwy 4 will re-open at approximately 5pm according to CHP. Rate of spread has slowed and smoke output has diminished although still significant. UPDATE #5...2:56pm...Has spread to 80 acres according to Lisa Williams. No structures threatened. Fire is straddled on Hwy 4 along the South side. Structure protection is set up. Plenty of assets on scene. UPDATE #6 CONTAINED AS OF 3:30PM. Total acreage damaged, 78 acres. No structures damaged. Thank you fire and emergency personnel for a great job well done again! Raw video enclosed...

Angels Camp, CA....A little bit of country and history took place on Saturday at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp. Since cowboys are such an important part of the history and heritage of Calaveras County, the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the cowboy with a Barbecue Dinner and Dance. The National Day of the American Cowboy.....
