A Note of Thanks~From Billie Kane, Owner of Once Upon a Time on The Square

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 02/04/2011 09:12 AM
Copperopolis, CA...."When I left Castle & Cooke Calaveras, Inc. the tough part was not being a part of the Town Square, something that I had worked on and been a part of since its conception. Opening Once Upon A Time on the Square has kept me connected to The Square and my community, Copperopolis. Adding “Previously Read Books” section to the store was an opportunity to re-cycle books and my friends and customers have been very generous with their contributions. I decided and made a commitment to them that Once Upon a Time would contribute a third of our sales to our local library. On Tuesday I presented the first check to Valerie Dean at the Copperopolis library.....

"Wally World Tires"~by The Copperopolis Curmudgeon

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 02/04/2011 10:22 PM
Now for those of you with teenage daughters you understand this statement and how this is directed to the father . . . for those of you who do not . . . I’ll translate; “Dad . . . the tires on my car are bald and obviously you no longer love me because you allow me to risk my life by driving this vehicle with tires that are going to blow out in the next ten miles and none of my friends dads would ever treat their daughters like this . . . so Dad . . . get tires on my car before I die trying to go to school tomorrow . . .” (Actually there is still lots of tread but she has been told by some kid at school they are bald and he being in second year auto shop . . . is a tire expert.)....

Calaveras Train Guy Goes National!

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 02/02/2011 01:53 PM
The Calaveras Train Guy, Rich Kotowski was at the Great Train Expo in St. Louis, Missouri, this past weekend (It was also his sister's 52nd birthday Friday, who lives in the suburbs of St. Louis.) He took a Lionel "Budweiser" train set back to St. Louis to sell at the toy train event. He was surprised that it made it thru the airline luggage system. He also found a few "Plasticville" buildings to sell. With the way the weather is in the midwest he's glad to be back now in Calaveras County!....

Letter to the Editor~by Peggy Rourke-Nichols

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 02/02/2011 07:34 PM
Dear Editor, We were in Sonora today for errands, etc. and were happy to see the truck from Re-Horse Rescue in the parking lot. I went in to OSH and asked around to find the wonderful people who helped save the horses last week. It didn't take long at all. I gave her our profound thanks for taking the horses in. I reached in to my wallet to give her all I had, a ten dollar bill. She says that will buy 2 bales of hay. It isn't much but it was enough to let them know they did something very special. We exchanged hugs and I told her that what they did was very extraordinary. So, if you have an extra ten dollars, send it their way and know it will buy 2 bales of hay.....

Can You Donate Hay for The Copperoplis Horses?~by Betsy Duncan of Century 21

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 02/02/2011 08:19 PM
Copperopolis, CA....The horses rescued in Copper are still in need of help. Re-Horse Rescue cannot absorb 100% of the cost of their care. Not in this economy. So we are accepting donations on behalf of the Copper horses at Century 21, Central Sierra Realty. One bale of hay is $10.00....so any amount would be awesome. They are located at: 26 Copper Cove Dr., Copperopolis, CA 95228. For more information call: (209) 785-1500 or (888) 785-1510/ Fax: (209) 785-1510. E-Mail: info@centralsierrarealty.com. Update 2/44/11: "Just an FYI....It is my understanding that Hurst Ranch charges $2.50 more per bale then McDillards in Copper AND they charge $25.00 to deliver....McDillards is donating their deliveries."

Harry Whitney Horse Clinic Coming Up

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 02/02/2011 07:46 PM
Valley Springs, CA....A horse clinic coming up in Valley Springs at Speckled Oaks Ranch off Hwy 12 in Valley Springs. Harry Whitney is an internationally known clinician who has an uncanny gift with not only horses, but in communicating those skills to his students as well. His philosophies are presented in a knowledgeable and humorous manner. Those who have ridden with him, return time and again as there is always more to be learned (a fact he himself is fond of admitting). Some rider slots available for 1, 2, 3 or 4 days. Auditors welcome ($20/day fee).
