Copperopolis, CA...Crews are working fully involved structure fire on Foothill Road in the Poker Flat Subdivision. More to follow...Update as of 9:11am TCU Command Center did not have information yet on additional details as to whether anyone was displaced....

The Mother Lode Jewish Community will be holding a Tu B'shvat Seder and tree planting on Sunday, Feb. 12 in Copperopolis at 1:30 pm. Tu B’Shvat is a holiday of nature -- the New Year of the Trees. In our Mother Lode communities, we are surrounded by nature’s bounty and celebrate this uniquely Jewish holiday mindful that we are stewards of the earth and its produce. It is a wonderful holiday for old and young alike. Please join us for a relaxed afternoon. There will be ritual, song and prayer - and a few shovels of dirt to be lifted. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a folding chair. Bring a picnic lunch, refreshments provided.

Copperopolis Town Square, CA...the events, shopping and entertainment gathering place in Calaveras County – will host the “4th Annual Copper Chili Cookoff” Saturday, Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., bringing together cooks of all styles. Admission is free and chili tasting is $5 for guests (10 and over). The competition continues to grow popularity due to recipes allowing more flexibility of ingredients such as beans....

Copperopolis, CA...Former Supervisor Russ Thomas has thrown his hat in the ring of those that will vie for the District 4 Calaveras County Supervisors Seat. The newly configured district now includes Copperopolis, Angels Camp and as far up Hwy 4 as Vallecito....

Copperopolis, CA...Copperopolis native Ella Louise McCarty-Hiatt died peacefully December 23 in her home surrounded by loved ones. Ella was 96 yrs old. Ella was born in Salt Spring Valley, the daughter of Jackson Dean and Helen (Hunt) McCarty, Granddaughter of Thomas and Agnes (Dean) McCarty, Founder of Copperopolis and sister to 7 siblings that have all preceded her in death. Ella grew up in Salt Spring Valley, attended the Salt Spring Valley School and graduated from Bret Harte High School in 1932.... |

Copperopolis, CA...Copperopolis in Calaveras County has been named to Bing.com’s “Fabulous Christmas Trees” list for its 40-foot white fir decorated with more than 1,000 holiday lights. Bing.com, the second-largest global search engine, is honoring the Copperopolis holiday tree along with 14 others such as the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in New York City, the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C. and the Daley Plaza holiday tree in Chicago. The list also includes trees from London, Rio de Janeiro and Dortmund, Germany.....
