New Melones, CA....Kokanee Seminar Weekend...On April 16th and 17th, we will host a two-day weekend event at our store. It will be a smaller-sized version of our big annual seminar, but it will focus on kokanee, since it will be the start of kokanee season. Of course, local guides will be on hand with their boats. They will be happy to answer questions about trout, kings and striped bass, too. There will be vendors and special deals, just like during our seminars in the past. It will be a fun weekend- I hope you will join us!....

Copperopolis, CA....Now for those of us that have been in Copper for a while the question has become where is Copperopolis? The towns’ historical center is the Main Street and heck we even have a Post Office for zip code 95228 on Main Street along with a good ...number of State registered historical monuments and a new 150th Anniversary wall next to between the museum and the armory. The cemetery is over off Reeds’ Turnpike....

New Melones, CA...Dan and I at the mouth of the South Fork Stanislaus, after a long, cold boat ride! Dan and I had a visitor from out of town this week. Terry lives part-time in Hawaii, and part time in Northern California near Sonoma. He wanted to catch some trout (I guess he gets bored with all those big mahi and ono in Hawaii!). We took him out for trout, and managed to catch dinner three days in a row. By the way, does anyone have fish recipes they want to share?....

Hello, my name is Sue Funkey and I am the owner of Sue’s Custom Gardens, a landscape business and Sue’s Garden Service a Garden Maintenance business. I’ve been around for coming on 9 years so many of you know me. This is my new column for ThePineTree.net so if you have any comments, suggestions or need any help feel free to contact me.....Well, it’s the first of the season, you’re looking outdoors sort of wondering what to do. There’s a ton of things your garden is looking for. In most cases my references are from Murphy’s to Copper, Valley Springs and including Tuolumne county. Higher up the hill from Murphy’s, some of my ideas may not be the greatest as the weather is so much different. .....

Copperopolis, CA...Thanks to all who came out last night to the meeting in Copperopolis. This meeting was called by the Poker Flat HOA to address some ongoing questions regarding safety on the water at Tulloch and feedback on the left turn pocket into Poker Flat with relation to time frame for completion. I want to give a big thanks to Sheldon and the Poker Flat Board for initiating this meeting and for hosting in their normal generous style with coffee and cookies and opening it up to the whole Copper community for other questions.....

"Fishing with a 5 Year Old"~A Humor Column by The Copperopolis Curmudgeon |

My earliest memories of fishing were trips I took with my grandfather in Nevada . . . I followed the old man into the woods to find the elusive trout in streams on the eastside of Mount Rose or on the bank of Pyramid Lake chasing horned toads. Horned toads exist. When we first moved to California the guys in my new school called me a liar when I told them that the blue belly lizards they had were for girls . . . cuz real boys had horned toads. Of course they had never heard of horned toads because they are not native to San Bruno......
