Posted by: thepinetree on 01/05/2009 07:12 AM
Valley Springs, CA...‘New’ can be exciting: ideas, opportunities, even a clean slate. Sometimes ‘new’ means we face a loss of some things we liked about the past. With the ‘new year’ comes resolutions that we will make for a better, or at least different future: diet, exercise, finally get that colossal castle we’ve been drooling over. (Okay, the diet is iffy)...

San Andreas, CA...We had already posted the highlights of the December Calaveras County Planning Commission meeting where they passed the agenda item limiting density transfers. This is the video of the meeting that features the biggest item of the meeting that never found it's way to the agenda. This was the last Meeting presided over by outgoing Planning Director Bob Sellman. Director Sellman retired at the end of last year and by all accounts he...

They are next generation competitors from skiing dynasties like the Rasmussen family and children of Olympic Gold Medalists in other sports mixed with the fresh dreams of many others striving to make their mark in the athletic world. The kids may be young but this is serious stuff...

Making "Bear Droppings" with Gary "The Candyman" Hauer ~By John Hamilton

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/22/2008 07:31 AM
Arnold, CA...Many of you may not know that you have a business owner living in our little Calaveras County that has probably been in charge of making more candy than almost anyone on the planet. For 17 years Arnold Ace Home Center's Gary Hauer was the plant manager for See's Candy in South San Francisco and after See's he and his wife Susan were executives at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. So when Gary talks candy he knows the subject. We had the pleasure to video the Candy Making Class that Gary held last week in Arnold. Gary started off by telling the audience the the science behind candy...

San Andreas, CA...On Tuesday we stopped by the "Hobnob at the CCOG" to sample some of their great clam chowder, cookies & treats. The Hobnob was their Holiday open house and Christmas party. The Calaveras Council of Governments has done a great job this year pushing community projects forward. From the Mobility Plan in Arnold to the Bypass in Angels Camp to the community plans for Valley Springs and San Andreas the CCOG has had a busy year. One small cloud on the sunny horizon may be...

Credit Card Fraud Crime Prevention Advisory

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/18/2008 02:56 PM
The Calaveras County Sheriffs Office has been receiving reports of increased attempts to obtain citizens' credit card information for fraudulent purposes. Many residents throughout the county have recently received phone calls by individuals posing as employees of credit card companies or financial institutions. These callers ask that people "verify" their credit card information. The Sheriffs Office warns that credit card companies and financial institutions do not initiate calls or emails requesting customers to "update" or "verify" credit card information....
