Hazardous Trees Force Closure of Mountain Ranch Road

Sandreas, CA...PublicWorks staff has identified hazardous trees that are in danger of falling onto Mountain Ranch Road. County Road Crews have been deployed to the site and Mountain Ranch Road is closed from Garibaldi Street, Mountain Ranch to Sheep Ranch Road, Mountain Ranch.

The impact varies, based on geographical location and wind direction, but has the greatest impact at this time on sensitive populations, including individuals with heart and lung disease, elderly persons, infants, children and pregnant women.

LEAD AGENCY: Calaveras County Planning Department, 891 Mountain Ranch Rd., San Andreas, CA 95249. 2018-038 AMENDMENTS TO TITLE 17 RELATED TO FEE ADOPTION: The County proposes to amend Title 17 to modify Section 17.94.020 related to establishing Planning Department fees. The proposed amendment to Title 17 is exempt from CEQA pursuant to Sections 15273(a) and 15061(b)(3). The establishment of fees is statutorily exempt and the activity is covered by the general rule that CEQA applies only to projects which have the potential for causing a significant effect on the environment. Where it can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility that the activity in question may have a significant effect on the environment, the activity is not subject to CEQA.
The Double Fire Destroyed a Home and Displaces a Family Last Evening ~ Chip Dingman

Valley Springs, CA...The Double Fire in the 4,000 Block of Double Springs Road. destroyed a home, displaced a family and Red Cross was called to assist the family. This was dispatched at 6:45PM as a structure fire with possible wildland involvement. Up on arrival of the first in engine it was discovered that there was no wildland involvement, it was structure fire only. While firefighters made a quick attach on the fire it had already progressed into the attic and through the roof ultimately causing the roof to collapse and unsafe for firefighters to make entry into the structure to fight the fire. Once the firefighters had most of the fire knocked down they were able to them make entry into the structure to fight the fire from the interior.

Thomas James Milligan, Military Veteran, wine maker, artist, water master, computer engineer, inventor, coach, and jack of all trades, died Thursday just four days prior to his 73rd birthday from cancer. Tom, as he was known to his friends and family, spent his final years in Calaveras County. He was a source of comfort at the local hardware stores. His advice and creative thinking helped many an individual out of a sticky situation. While in Calaveras County, his love of wine really took shape, his 2004 Cabernet was second to none, and don’t forget his out of this world Bruschetta.
