Beth Childs/Genna Hurst Scholarship Awarded by Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF)

San Andreas, CA...The Beth E. Childs/ Genna Hurst Renewable Scholarship administered by the Calaveras Community Foundation was presented during the Awards night at Calaveras High School in early June. The 2016 scholarship committee selected Kelly Baird as the recipient. Kelly, an ambitious young woman with a 4.306 GPA, is the daughter of proud parents, Hope and Richard Baird of West Point. Kelly will attend UC Berkeley where she will enroll as a undeclared Social Science major. Kelly has varied interests one of which is history. As stated in her application, “College is a place where I plan to explore, grow and learn. I want to make a difference in the world, and help people by helping them understand themselves.”
San Andreas, CA...In Calaveras County, 3 people were arrested by the CHP between 6:00 pm Friday and 11:59 pm Monday. 2 were arrested for DUI while 1 was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. The San Andreas Officers handled 6 accidents during this time period and wrote 62 citations. Most were for speeding including several mechanical violations.
San Andreas, CA...District One supervisor candidates for the run off election in November were guests on local Public Access Television (PATV) Taxpayer Alert! The two 30 minute programs feature Supervisor Cliff Edson and former Supervisor Gary Tofanelli. The primary election votes were very close. Edson previously won the seat from Tofanelli in a 2012 election. Both are successful businessmen and neither attacked the other in the interviews, but focused on what they would do if elected.

Arnold, CA...(Update as of 9:45am Tuesday morning. Thank You!!! As of right now our first show has had 15,368 Views!!) Tonight is the Premier of "The One Percent" it gets its name from the USDA Study that ranked all 3,111 counties in the lower 48 based on the "natural amenities index". The index hopes to be "a measure of the physical characteristics of a county area that enhance the location as a place to live." Calaveras came in as the 14th ranked county in the whole nation. Our neighbors to the south, north and east all ranked high but came in just a bit lower than Calaveras. So if you average our the counties in our coverage area they all score in the top one percent of places to live in the US.

DUI Checkpoint Going On Now In San Andreas

San Andreas, CA...On Monday July 4, 2016, the California Highway Patrol San Andreas office will be conducting a Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint. The purpose of the checkpoint is to detect and deter DUI/unlicensed drivers. The checkpoint will be staffed by officers of the California Highway Patrol that are trained in the detection of alcohol and/or drug impaired drivers. CHP Drug Recognition Experts, certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will be on site to provide on the spot assessments of drivers suspected of drug use. The officers will also be equipped with hand held breath testing devices which provide an accurate measure of blood alcohol concentration of those suspected of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Major Injuries to San Andreas Couple In Bear Valley Accident

Bear Valley, CA...There were major injuries and both parties needed to be medi-flighted from the scene of a vehicle vs tree incident off of Hwy 4 in the Bear Valley area yesterday. Hopefully the 74 year old San Andreas woman who was driving and her 80 year old passenger will heal quickly and be back home soon. Additional details are enclosed...
