Gerald Michael Osmer 1946 - 2016

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/13/2016 12:56 PM
San Andreas, CA...Gerald Michael Osmer was born September 21, 1946 in Watsonville, CA. This proud son of the Pajaro Valley graduated from Watsonville High School and after graduation enlisted in the Army in 1966. Thanks to a gift with languages, he learned Turkish at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey and was stationed in Turkey during his service. Gerald, known to all as Gerry, was eventually transferred to Fort Meade, Maryland where he met Betty Janet Osmer (nee Garuti), who would become his wife of 47 years. Upon honorable completion of his service, Gerry returned home and attended college at UC Santa Cruz, later putting himself through law school by working as a loader in the lettuce fields of his native Watsonville and Salinas. Gerry passed the California Bar exam in 1979, and eschewing private practice, went directly to work in the service of the people of Monterey in the Public Defender’s Office. He would work as an attorney for 30 years, during which time he tried more than 150 jury trials, including multiple capital cases. Over the course of his lengthy legal career, Gerry defended residents of Santa Cruz, Monterey, Salinas, Calaveras, and Tuolumne counties, helping them weather the darkest hours of their legal battles....

CAL FIRE Suspends Outdoor Residential Burning

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/10/2016 09:15 AM
San Andreas, CA...As drought conditions continue to increase fire danger in the region, CAL FIRE has suspended all burn permits for outdoor open residential burning within the State Responsibility Area of Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. This suspension takes effect June 13, 2016 and bans all residential outdoor burning of landscape debris including branches and leaves. “As the days get longer, our outdoor activities will increase. Everyone can help reduce the threat of wildfire by remaining extra vigilant of how activities are being done,” said Unit Chief Josh White. Chief White continued, “TCU is staffed and ready for rapid response to serve the community. Working together we can enjoy the summer days ahead.”

According to Calaveras County Clerk Recorder Rebecca Turner this is about 35% of the vote and it is what was turned in by 8pm tonight!
