Mountain Ranch Structure Fire Turns Deadly

Mountain Ranch, CA....Crews were called to a structure fire on Cave City Road at 7:45am yesterday morning. On arrival the structure was 50% involved. The cause of the fire is under investigation and sadly there was one civilian fatality. More to follow as details are released....

Additional Information On Structure Fire Fatality From Central Fire

Mountain Ranch, CA....Central Calaveras Fire and CalFire were dispatched to a possible fire on Cave City Road in Mountain Ranch. CalFire Engine 4473 located a structure on fire in the 8500 block of Cave City Rd. Upon arrival, the structure was 50% involved. Fire crews began controlling the fire and contained the fire to the involved structure. The structure was heavily damaged and 1 civilan fatality was discovered in the fire scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Additional details are enclosed....

City Council Sends Medical Center Project Packing Or At Least Back To Planning Commission Update Full Video Up Now ~ By John Hamilton

Angels Camp, CA....It was a very tough meeting to sit through last night as the Angels Camp City Council voted 4-1 last night to deny the zoning amendment that would have kept the ball rolling towards a new 15,000 sqft Family Medical Center & Medical Office complex at the the corner of Hwy 4 & 49. It was painful to witness because the real problem was not the project or the concerns of the residents. If we are going to get serious in our area about economic development projects like this need to be able to go forward and City Councils need to have the intestinal fortitude to pursue real solutions like the Clifton Lane solution which has the potential to solve the residents concerns for decades....

Employment Workshops for State Prison Staff Openings Planned

San Andreas, Ca...The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation forecasts 7,000 job openings created by upcoming retirements. To recruit candidates for Peace Officers, the CDCR has partnered with Mother Lode Job Training and the Employment Development Department to host a workshop on the hiring process for these positions. The workshop will be held in Calaveras on Tuesday, July 15 in the Cheseborough Room at the Public Library located at 1299 Gold Hunter Road off of Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Space can be reserved by calling 754-4242.

Isabel M. Neilsen January 2, 1913 – June 13, 2014 - 101 years

San Andreas, Ca....Isabel Neilsen, a fourth generation Calaveras resident was born January 2, 1913 and died in her home in San Andreas on Friday, June 13, 2014 at the age 101 years. Isabel was a descendent of John and Mary Barker, a young couple from Manchester, England, who emigrated to the United States in 1851 with their 9 month old daughter, Phoebe –Isabel’s maternal grandmother. They arrived in California in 1857, after spending 7 years in Independence, Missouri. Isabel’s grandmother, Phoebe married John Jackson on December 26, 1871 in Mokelumne Hill. Her mother Agnes was one of their six children born on Central Hill. Agnes married William (Will) Long of Oakland, California on July 6, 1906 in Stockton, CA . Isabel spent her early childhood in Oakland. After her father died Isabel and her mother lived in the Susanville area until she graduated from Susanville High School. Then she moved back to Oakland to attend UC Berkeley....

San Andreas, Ca...Mother Lode Job Training - a series of workshops aimed at helping job seekers succeed at finding employment in their desired field. The workshops will be held at the Calaveras Career Center of Mother Lode Job Training in June and July. The workshops are free but pre-registration is required. Call (209) 754-4242 to reserve a spot at the training. Resume Writing will be held on Wednesday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to Noon. The workshop will be repeated twice in July on Wednesday, July 9th 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and again on Wednesday, July 23rd from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 from 10 a.m. to Noon.
