| San Andreas, Ca...Calaveras Public Health Services is recruiting residents to be trained as Community Health Workers. Community Health Workers [CHW] guide adults in learning chronic condition self-management skills. The Community Health Workers conduct workshops in the areas where they live. “We are looking for adults that have a chronic condition or a partner/family member caring for someone with a chronic condition to become the CHWs,” stated Dr. Dean Kelaita, County Health Officer. The participants will learn the Healthier Living model developed by Stanford University. The strength of the model is that the CHWs are people in the community who also have chronic conditions and have been trained in self-management skills that include physical activity, reducing stress, healthy eating and communication with your doctor. This is an opportunity for local residents to gain personal skills in managing a chronic condition and support building skills with others... |

Rancho Calaveras, CA...I am truly grateful for the opportunity I had to proudly serve my community and Calaveras County. I've met many wonderful people and learned vast amounts of new things I never would have, had I not served as a County Supervisor these last four years. I will always cherish this time as an experience unlike any other, that very few people get the opportunity to experience. Many people wonder what it would be like to be an elected representative and how they would change things for the better if they had a crack at it for a year or two....

Deputy Sheriff’s Association Supports Community |

| San Andreas, Ca... The Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) administers a donor advised fund for the Calaveras Deputy Sheriff’s Association (DSA). The DSA is an affiliation of sworn deputies and personnel from the Calaveras Sheriff’s Department. They independently raise funds for causes that benefit and promote public safety in the County. They also work with schools to provide funds for extracurricular activities and provide scholarships for students wishing to pursue a law enforcement career. To date in 2014, the following monetary grants have been made by DSA: Calaveras High School Wrestling Team received $500 that will pay for new mats. $300 went to the Lady Reds Softball team for equipment and uniforms. The 6th grade Volley Ball program in Valley Springs will continue due to the $300 they were granted. Calaveras Youth Wrestling now has new uniforms and the $500 donation helped offset the cost of insurance... |
