Pick up litter, sweep sidewalks, clear out weeds, trim shrubs and fix welcome signs along Highway 49 in downtown San Andreas. After the Clean-Up, volunteers will be treated to a lunch at Turner Park. Mokelumne Hill, Ca...Calaveras High School Boys Soccer will be hosting a fundraising dinner on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Mokelumne Hill Town Hall. Doors open at 5 pm and dinner will be served at 6 pm. The dinner will feature chicken-in-a-barrel with side dishes, a dessert auction and a prize raffle. Dinner will be $20 per person. New Faces, Same Mission - Calaveras County Sheriff Volunteer Unit Celebrates 25 Years |

San Andreas, Ca...The Calaveras County Sheriff Volunteer Unit celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Unit in 2014. In July, a group photo of the Unit was taken in front of the new Sheriff's Office in San Andreas. There are many new faces in the Unit; however, their mission remains the same - to volunteer for the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office to provide a law and order community for the safety of the County residents. The Calaveras Sheriff's Volunteer Unit is in need of serious-minded retired or semi-retired persons to perform various duties such as Sheriff Substation operation, resident, business and school patrol in marked patrol vehicles and other non-law enforcement duties. Training is provided and background checks are made on all applications, Senior citizens welcome.

Angels Camp, CA....The Democrats and environmental groups are on their way to designating 37 miles of the Mokelumne River as “Wild and Scenic” What does it mean to be designated “Wild and Scenic”? It means that the river must remain free-flowing without artificial impoundment, diversion, or other modification of the river. In other words, the water in that portion of the river cannot be diverted for the use of the people and farmers, now and in the future. Any future water use will be controlled by the State....
