Burson, CA...Jeremy Arron Rupe passed away on April 23rd in San Andreas. A native of Modesto, moved to Valley Springs with his family in 2000. His family had just recently moved to Burson. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a sophomore at Calaveras High School and was very well liked. He died of natural causes...

San Andreas, CA...There was an escaped debris burn that spread to a small spot of vegetation on April 25th at 156 Pope Street in San Andreas. No dollar damages or injuries reported. CAL Fire report enclosed....

San Andreas, CA....The Annual 2008 Calaveras Air Fair was an family fun-filled day. There was Aircraft Static displays and Hangar displays for all to enjoy by the Spitfire Aircraft Company. The biggest hit of the day was the $5 airplane rides over Calaveras County. There were also old car displays and military jeeps. The food was cooked and donated by the San Andreas Lions Club. We had the opportunity to.....

San Andreas, CA....The Calaveras County Sheriffs Association hosted a Candidates Night on Thursday eve at San Andreas Town Hall. All nine Supervisor Candidates were invited to share their platforms and share their visions for Calaveras County. They had to answer some pretty difficult questions to a crowd of approximately 100. Murphys, CA....Stacy Apley is a cancer survivor, now on her second round of treatment. There has been a website set up for Stacy, www.swingforstacy.com. This website will keep the us all informed on Stacy's progress and also the fundraising efforts our community is involved in to help this family out. Stacy is a lovely woman who is married to a wonderful man and is blessed with three young children. She lives in Murphys with her family. The first fundraiser scheduled to be held is "The Stacy Apley Second Round Cancer Survivor Benefit Golf Tournament" with Dinner and Auction. It will take place on Friday, June 13, 2008, at Greenhorn Creek Golf Course......

Calaveras County, CA....The Calaveras Works and Human Services Agency now has five Outstations to help our community get the services they need. They also go out once a month for visits to the San Andreas Senior Center and HRC. There is a new new Veteran’s Service Representative, Chele Beretz, to help you. She now makes appointments for veterans at any of their offices or where ever it is convenient for him or her. A Flyer is attached.....

Capers: An Interesting Plant That Does Well in the Foothills~By Ken Churches

Caper, is a native of the Mediterranean area, as well as of the tropics. The plant grows about two feet tall and spreading. The vines can be 7 to 10 feet long, and have a very deep root system. The plant is very drought resistant, needs little cultural care, requires good drainage, and is practically free of diseases and insect pests. The fruit is green, elongated, 2-3 inches long, 1/2 - 3/4 inch in diameter, and contains 200-300 seeds. The leaves are oval in shape, leathery and shiny green.
