Chamber of Commerce & Enterprise Candidates Night for District 4 Packs the House!

Murphys, CA....Native Sons Hall of Murphys was the place to be tonight for the Supervisor Candidates District 4 Night. The Hall was packed with community members trying to decide who they want representing them in their District. Present were Tom Tryon, Lee Seaton, Sarah Lunsford and Ron Klass. This event event was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Calaveras Enterprise. Each Candidate was asked questions by Moderator, Buzz Eggleston, Editor of the Calaveras Enterprise. The audience also participated in questions for the hopeful candidates. The evening started at 6:30pm and ran until about 8:30pm. The next Candidates Night will be held on Wednesday May 7th at 6:30pm at San Andreas Town Hall for District I Supervisor. Present will be Zerrall McDaniel, Gary Toffanelli and Kathy Mazzaferro. As we get closer to election day the candidates are starting to define their positions in clearer terms. We will be posting some excerpt clips of some of the sharper exchanges in a separate piece. San Andreas, CA....Calaveras Council of Governments along with Cal-Trans is asking the Public Asked to Share Ideas To Improve Transportation Services for Calaveras County Older Adults, People with Disabilities and Low-Income Residents. They will be sponsoring transportation workshops for Calaveras County organizations and residents. The first Calaveras County Human Service-Public Transportation Coordination Plan Community Workshop will be held on Tuesday May 13th from 1:30pm~3:30pm at the CalWORKS Sequoia Room, 509 E. Saint Charles Street in San Andreas. Full details are enclosed....

San Andreas, CA...The seventh annual César E. Chávez Children’s Book Drive at the San Andreas CHP was a great success for Calaveras County, collecting over 160 books. The book drive ran from Monday, March 31, Chávez’s Birthday, to May 5, 2008. Children from across the state will receive books collected during the campaign, which is co-sponsored by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) and the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.....

Board of Supevisors Back in Action Tuesday Morning

San Andreas, CA....The Board of Supervisors will be back in action Tuesday morning for their first May meeting at 9am. Some of the agenda items being discussed will be a Resolution Item commending Jeannene White, District 5 representative on the Calaveras County Fish & Game Commission for her years of service; A Resolution Item awarding the bid for herbicides to the Wilbur Ellis Company in the amount of $60,493,93.00; A Resolution authorizing the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office to pursue regional radio communications planning and federal funding requests with the Alpine County Sheriffs Office; A Minute Order authorizing a contract for law enforcement services at New Hogan Lake in the amount not to exceed $45,784.25 effective May 2, 2008 through September 28, 2008. The first will be District 4 Candidates held on May 5 at 6:30pm at the Native Sons Hall in Murphys.
