San Andreas, CA...Paula Marie Serra, Nov. 28, 1946 - Feb. 6, 2018. Paula Marie Serra age 71 died on February 6, 2018. Paula was born in Boston Massachusetts on November, 28 1946. Her family moved to California where she was raised in San Andreas and attended Calaveras High School. She earned her cosmetology license and opened up a salon in San Andreas in the late 60’s. She married Carlin in 1969 and raised 3 children Eric, Erica (twins) and Nicole. Paula sold the salon to spend time with her children. After the children grew older she worked for Calaveras title company and Calaveras tax collector office. While working full time she went to school at night and completed her Associate of Arts Degree from San Joaquin Delta College. Paula later changed careers and worked for the United States Postal Service where she was Assistant Postmaster in Angels Camp and Arnold, California. She was diagnosed with cancer in 1993 and retired early from the postal service.

Mountain Ranch, CA...Jennifer Jo Catanzarite, 70, of Mountain Ranch, California, passed away on April 21st, 2018 in Elk Grove, California. Jennifer is survived by her husband, Frank Catanzarite of Mountain Ranch, CA; two daughters, Katrina Quayle of Sebastopol,CA and April Taylor (Nick) of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren, Eric, Bryce, Blayne, Ava, Michael and Joshua; one great-granddaughter, Lilah; five sisters,Tina, Jackie, Marion,Valerie and Brenda; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Grant for Critical Home Repair for Seniors Awarded!

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras Community Foundation has generously awarded $10,000 to Habitat for Humanity Calaveras for the purpose of providing critical home repair for senior citizens in Calaveras County. The money will be used for licensed contractors aided by volunteers to provide quality home repairs at a low price. Those who qualify may receive subsidies or interest free financing. Seniors in need of home repair can obtain an application at the Habitat for Humanity Calaveras office located in the Calaveras County Senior Center in San Andreas.
Calaveras Airport Day 2018, Fly-In & Open House is April 21

Angels Camp, CA...Calaveras Airport is hosting their annual Fly-In & Open House on Saturday April 21 from 8am to 5pm. In addition to many aircraft flying in there will be aircraft, classic cars, & RC airplanes on display. Lions Club will be serving a pancake breakfast and for lunch EAA chapter 484 will BBQ hamburgers & more. There will be music throughout the day by "The Calaveras Community Band" and "The Rusty Rockers". Airplane rides are offered to the public; $10 for children & $20 for adults. San Andreas, Ca...The proponents of the recall of District 2 Supervisor, Jack Garamendi, did not file the petition by the 5 p.m. deadline on Thursday, April 19, 2018. If the proponents intend to pursue the recall process, it must be initiated once again by serving the officer sought for recall with a Notice of Intent, and filing the Notice of Intent and proof of service with the Elections Office. The State Procedures for Recalling State & Local Officials as well as the County Quick Reference Guide of the recall process can be found on the County Elections website at : http://elections.calaverasgov.us/Next-Election/Candidate-and-Measure-Guides.

Angels Camp, CA...Calaveras Deputy Sheriff’s Association Proudly Presents the Annual Erica Seawell and Sheriff Gary Kuntz Memorial Golf Tournament. Sunday, April 22, 2018, Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort, Angels Camp, CA 8:00 am check in 9:00 am Shotgun Start, Entry Fee: $125.00. In memory of Erica Seawell and Sheriff Gary Kuntz, scholarship funds have been set up for 7 separate scholarships to be given to Calaveras and Bret Harte students. At this year’s tournament, we will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Last Place prizes for your gross score. A long drive contest and closest to the pin contest will also take place during the tournament. Entry fee includes golf, cart, on course contests, mulligans, 10 raffle tikets and dinner.
San Andreas, CA...Our Mom, Catherine Mary West - 81, passed away at home of natural causes in the wee hours of January 24th of this year, 2018, while living at 339 Toyanza Drive in San Andreas, California 95249. San Andreas is a long way from Manhattan, New York, which is where Mom was born on the 22nd of December in 1936. Though she left high school to get married and start a family, she eventually earned her GED and went on to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. She always enjoyed the fellowship she found within the Roman Catholic Church and often served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Hospitality Coordinator, a Pre School Sunday School Teacher, or wherever there was a need.
