Board of Supervisors Are Back in Action With A "Special" Cannabis Meeting January 10th

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors are back in action on January 10th to conduct a Public Hearing to adopt an Ordinance rescinding Chapter 17.95 and replacing it with a new Chapter 17.95 banning or regulating cannabis cultivation and related commercial activities; certify Environmental Impact Report and adopt Findings of Fact; adopt the Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Plan; or find that adoption of the ordinance is exempt from CEQA pursuant to Sec. 26055(h) of the Business and Professions Code.

Two Indoor Marijuana Grows Seized in Valley Springs

Valley Springs, CA...Two more indoor marijuana grows were seized last week by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team. On 12-29-17 Deputies served search warrants at two houses on Greer Way in Valley Springs. Both locations were identified as unregistered illegal marijuana cultivation sites inside residences. It is suspected that the two locations are associated with each other. 696 marijuana plants and over 10 pounds of processed marijuana were seized at one house while another 47 pounds of processed marijuana was seized from the second house. No subjects were present during service of the warrants. This case is still under investigation.

Railroad Flat Man Arrested On Methamphetamine Sales Related Charges

Rail Road Flat, CA...On 1-04-18 Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Investigators served a search warrant at a mobile home located in the 1400 block of Railroad Flat Road, Railroad Flat. At this location deputies seized methamphetamine and paraphernalia indicative of drug sales as well as several thousand dollars cash. The sole occupant of the house during service of the warrant was arrested on various drug related charges. Michael Miller (age 61 of Railroad Flat) was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on $40,000 bail for the following charges...

Gary L. Stevens Announces His Candidacy For Calaveras Sheriff

San Andreas, CA...Gary L. Stevens, long time Calaveras County resident has announced his that he has filed his election papers as a candidate for Sheriff. Stevens, 53, is a former Calaveras Deputy Sheriff and currently works as a District Attorney Investigator. He and his wife Nicki, and their son live in San Andreas.
Stevens has been a peace officer for more than 27 years and cares deeply about Calaveras County, its citizens and our environment. To quote Stevens from his website;

Jerry Byrd 1943 - 2017

Mountain Ranch, CA...Jerry Byrd 11/28/43 to 1/2/18 74 years old. Jerry died peacefully in his sleep the morning of Jan 2nd. Seventh child of eight, born in Alabama. Came out to Southern California at age 16. Meet his wife Sally in 1965, married in 1966 in Huntington Park. After the birth of their twins moved to Mountain Ranch in January of 1967. Various jobs included carpet cleaning & laying, Safeway in Altaville when it first opened, Calaveras County Road Department then had his own excavation business until he retired in 2004.
