UC Davis's Lake Tahoe Clarity Report Mixed for 2019, Says, Converging Threats Challenge Lake Restoration

Tahoe City, CA...The clarity of Lake Tahoe has long been one of the most important indicators of the changing condition of this iconic water body. In 2019, Lake Tahoe’s clarity decreased nearly 8 feet from the previous year’s dramatic 10-foot improvement. The average annual value in 2019 was 62.7 feet. The lowest value was recorded in 2017, when clarity was 60 feet.

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) awarded Career and Technical Training (C&TT) scholarships to a total of eleven high school students recently. Graduation, Awards Nights and so much more have been disrupted during this Covid-19 pandemic to say the least. Six Calaveras High School students, two Bret Harte High School students and three Mountain Oaks students each received $1,500.

Black High School Attainment Nearly on Par With National Average

About 90% of the U.S. population has graduated high school, a dramatic improvement in educational attainment that began when compulsory education was adopted by every state a century ago. The latest numbers form the Census Dept show 88% of Blacks Have a High School Diploma, 26% a Bachelor’s Degree. The most striking social shift is the shrinking of the high school attainment gap between Blacks and the national average.

$5,000 in Scholarships Awarded to Calaveras & Bret Harte Graduates

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Hospital Foundation Volunteers announced their 2020 high school scholarship recipients this month. A total of five, $1000.00 scholarships were awarded to Calaveras and Bret Harte High Schools graduating seniors. More than 50 applications were received and the selection process takes into account grade point average, community service and the student's interest in pursuing a health care related career.

Bret Harte High School & Angels Camp Celebrate The Class of 2020 with Drive Through Graduation!

Angels Camp, CA...On May 29th they held a drive through ceremony at Bret Harte High School where seniors received their diplomas and had pictures taken in cap and gown. The route took cars down Lee Ln through the parking lot behind lower gym and into bus chute. Cars exited through the horse shoe parking lot. Only one vehicle per family(including graduate) were allowed to enter. All occupants of each vehicle had to remain inside the vehicle at all times. Sacramento, CA...Today, the Education Coalition, comprised of the nine statewide K-12 education associations that work closely to advocate for the six million students in California’s public schools and colleges, urged California’s lawmakers to adopt a funding solution to the COVID-19-related budget crisis in the June budget. The group said that without adequate funding, schools cannot open on time safely.
