Arnold, CA...Arnold/Ebbetts Pass Corridor Communities participate in National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. Saturday, May 5th – Independence Hall, 1445 Blagen Road, Arnold, 9:00 to Noon. Residents and property owners in high-risk wildfire areas who want to take action to increase their safety but are unsure about how to start can now find the information and the inspiration they need to organize and accomplish wildfire risk reduction projects on their property and in their community. The Volunteers in Prevention Team is partnering with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and State Farm® for the 5th annual Wildfire Community Preparedness Day event on May 5th, 2018, to help individuals and communities prepare for and work together to reduce their risk of wildfire damage.

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras High School Drama is delighted to present Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella," the first full-length musical to take the stage at the Calaveras Performing Arts Center in over three years. The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. Jillian Zahniser appears as the title character, Jared Bisbikis is Prince Topher, Madalyn Myers is Crazy Marie, Brooke Wooldridge is Madame, Jacob Young is Sebastian, Madeleine Hedger is Charlotte, Amaya Halepota is Gabrielle, Jordan Hoyopatubbi is Jean-Michel, and Colton Minehart is Lord Pinkleton. The ensemble includes Anthony Barci, Macy Liotta, Talina Landry, Samantha Leach, Ramon Marquez, Kathryn Frazier, Cleo Osgood, Kyra Allemand, Timothy Kelly, Marco Ortega, and Irene Melendez. Murphys, CA...The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is delighted to announce Murphys resident Kristin White as the April 2018 Mentor of the Month. Kristin has been matched with her 15-year-old mentee, Charis, for over a year. “Kristin is an exceptionally devoted and steady volunteer. She is very busy as an optometrist with the newly opened MACT Health Clinic in San Andreas,” said Katie Lackler, coordinator of the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program. “But when it comes to Charis, she always has enough time. From the beginning, Kristin and Charis have had a truly happy and fun connection.”

Mountain Ranch, CA...Thank you to all who attended, donated to and volunteered at our chili cook off benefiting the Mountain Ranch 4H Club. We hope everyone enjoyed the chili, bake sale, snack bar, petting zoo, silent auction, and dessert auction. Our families worked hard to put on this event and could not be more grateful for the supportive attendance we received from the community!
Columbia College Fire Academy Graduation Tonight at 6pm

Columbia, CA...The Columbia College Fire Academy will hold its graduation ceremony and presentation of certificates to 25 students who successfully completed the Fire Technology Program this spring. The event, which is open to the general public, will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Oak Pavilion at the college.
Oxford, UK...Patrick Irwin, Professor of Planetary Physics (from the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics group here in the Oxford Department of Physics) and global collaborators spectroscopically dissected the infrared light from Uranus captured by the eight-metre Gemini North telescope on Hawaii's Maunakea. They found hydrogen sulphide, the odiferous gas that most people avoid, in Uranus’s cloud tops. The long-sought evidence is published in the journal Nature Astronomy and can be read here.

Jackson, CA...Amador FlyFishers (AFF) will be hosting a free Fly Fishing Faire Sunday, April 22, from 10am to 2pm at Detert Park, 530 Highway 49, Jackson, California. There will be booths with club members demonstrating the use of the tools of the sport and answering questions to help attendees learn more about the wonderful sport of flyfishing. There will also be hands-on activities. Most importantly, AFF will be highlighting its Youth Program which targets junior high and high school age kids and provides good hands-on flyfishing classes.

Arnold, CA...On Saturday, April 21, 2018 The Arnold Library Presents Novelist and Clive Cussler co-author from 1-3pm at the Ebbetts Pass Fire District Meeting Room. Robin Burcell spent nearly three decades working in law enforcement as a police officer, hostage negotiator, criminal investigator and FBI Academy-trained forensic artist. Burcell currently co-writes with international best-selling author Clive Cussler on the Fargo series. Pirate, their first co-written book, was released in 2016. The Romanov Ransom, next in that series, will be out September 12, 2017.
