10/04/2019 - Wood & Wire – Grammy nominated bluegrass
Friday October 4 @ 8:00 pm – at the Sutter Creek Theatre

Wood & Wire’s 2018 GRAMMY Nominated album for “Best Bluegrass”, North of Despair ( Blue Corn Music), is populated with songs by people like songwriter Tony Kamel’s own grandfather, who built the family’s hunting lodge in Llano, Texas with his own two hands. The characters on the album live large, and aren’t afraid to share their opinions about the modern world. This kind of vivid, haunting songwriting focused on lives spent deep in the countryside is a hallmark of Texas songwriting. But it’s the melding of this hard country songwriting with high-octane bluegrass instrumentation that makes for Wood & Wire’s signature sound. Artists like John Hartford have trod this ground before, mixing up great songs, bluegrass virtuosity, and a strong sense of place, and Wood & Wire aim to pave the way for Austin’s roots scene, bursting out of the giant expanses of the state with a fully-fledged vision for a new Texan sound. On North of Despair, they bring the ferocity of their live shows to the studio, whipping through barn-burning anthems about hard people in hard times.

10/20/2019 - Austin Lounge Lizards – Folk/country/bluegrass and laughable weirdness!
SUNDAY October 20 @ 4:00 pm at the Sutter Creek Theatre

THIS IS A SUNDAY SHOW – 4 PM
The Austin Lounge Lizards are arguably the perfect pairing of their hometown’s slogan, “Live Music Capital of the World,” and its unofficial motto, “Keep Austin Weird.” Since 1980, the Lizards have been spoofing topics American families try to avoid at the Thanksgiving table: subjects like politics, religion, romance, and themselves. With pointed lyrics, precise harmonies and instrumental expertise, the band has become legendary for its satirical skewering through song.

With their unique amalgamation of highly literate Ivy League roots; an appreciation for folk, country, bluegrass, and rock and roll musical styles; creative influences such as Frank Zappa, Spike Jones, George Jones, Homer & Jethro, and the Rolling Stones; and an unquenchable thirst for the absurd, the Lizards specialize in musical eclecticism, excellence and extreme entertainment.

10/19/2019 - The Young Dubliners – Irish Rock
Saturday October 19 @ 7:00 pm at the Sutter Creek Theatre

Dublin natives Keith Roberts (vocals, guitar) and Paul O’Toole (vocals, guitar, mandolin, harmonica) formed the Young Dubliners in the early 1990s after meeting one another in a Los Angeles pub. Roberts had been tweaking some Irish ballads of his own and opted that a band would be in order. O’Toole obliged, as well as Brendan Holmes (bass). They introduced their hearty rock sound on the Rocky Road EP in 1994; their first studio album Breathe appeared a year later, as well as new member Charles Waltz (violin). Their live shows had a jam-like appeal, similar to the vibes of Phish and the Dave Matthews Band, therefore, the band excelled. They have released 9 albums, and are currently working on a tenth.

The Young Dubliners’ style of music fuses traditional Irish instruments and music with modern rock, and their repertoire consists mostly of original rock compositions and Irish folk songs but with a rock twist. Explains founding member Keith Roberts, “The sound was always intended to be a hybrid because we all come from different backgrounds. Even though two of us are from Ireland, a lot of the music we listened to growing up wasn’t Irish at all, but when we got here, we got homesick and developed a new appreciation for Irish music.”

In recent years, The Dubs have appeared on television on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and have even had songs featured in TV shows like Sons Of Anarchy and Human Target, in addition to Hollywood films. For three decades, the group has toured both here in the United States and in Europe where they have opened for artists including Jethro Tull, Chris Isaak, Jonny Lang, John Hiatt, Collective Soul, and Los Lobos.

Newsome Harlow - Wines Defined By The Sierra Foothills

The gang here at Newsome Harlow is singularly focused on the experience of our customers. Our goal is to pay particular attention to your tastes in wine so that we may bring to you the wines and stories that are tailored to your preferences.

Furthermore, we may be winemakers and wine marketers, but we are wine drinkers first. So we get that not everyone cares how many awards our wines have won, that we work with some of the greatest Zinfandel vineyards in the Sierra Foothills or that the small batches of wine we produce are becoming harder and harder to get.

Most people care that our wines taste good. Really good. And we get that. That’s why we pay attention to the details — we walk the vineyards, we know the land, and we steward the greatest wines we possibly can into existence — and let you reap the rewards.

03/13/2020 - (Postponed) Calaveras High School to present “Oklahoma!” March 13 - 15!
San Andreas, CA...Calaveras High School Performing Arts is proud to present its Spring 2020 musical, Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!” Onstage at the Calaveras High School Performing Arts Center in San Andreas for one weekend only, performances are March 13 at 7:00, March 14 at 2:00 and 7:00, and March 15 at 2:00. In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly (Zachary Zahniser), a charming cowboy, and Laurey (Amaya Halepota and Madeleine Hedger, alternate performances), a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie (J'Cie Garrett) and hapless Will Parker (Nate DeYarmon) in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.
