02/08/2020 - Tom Russell -“October in the Railroad Earth” album release tour – Texas country-western, cowbo
He’s back! And once again, the ONLY Saturday performance in California for this tour is right here at the Sutter Creek Theatre! His last album release tour show at the Sutter Creek Theatre in 2017 SOLD OUT – so get your tickets early!
Singer-songwriter, painter, and essayist Tom Russell has released 35 highly-acclaimed albums and published six books, including a book on his art, a book of his songs, and a five-star rated book of essays, Ceremonies of the Horsemen. Russell was awarded the 2015 ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for excellence in music journalism, and his paintings reside in several major American museums and are represented through six world galleries.Russell’s latest recording of original compositions, October in the Railroad Earth, was released March15, 2019, on Frontera Records in North America and CD/LP on Proper Records everywhere else.
October in the Railroad Earth follows the acclaimed 2017 Frontera/Proper album “Folk Hotel” and Russell’s tribute to Ian & Sylvia on True North Records, “Play One More,” both receiving worldwide acclaim. Between major releases in 2018, Russell recorded the Bruce Springsteen track “Across The Border” for the three-disc Appleseed Records anniversary sampler, Roots and Branches, and issued a re-recording of early classics on Frontera, Old Songs Yet To Sing.
Russell’s previous album of new original material was the 2015 “folk opera” that Thom Jurek of allmusic.com hailed as Tom’s masterpiece, “The Rose of Roscrae.” Named “the top folk album of 2015” by Mojo magazine, Roscrae was also lauded as “maybe the most important Americana record of all time” by UK Folk. The album was included in top ten lists of dozens of publications, including the Los Angeles Times.

02/07/2020 - Ray Bonneville with Richie Lawrence – Song and groove blues
Ray recorded his first album, On the Main, in 1992 and earned wide critical and popular acclaim, winning an enthusiastic following in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. His awards include a prestigious Juno, the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy, for his 1999 album, Gust of Wind. In 2012, Ray won the solo/duet category in the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis. His post-Katrina ode, “I Am the Big Easy,” from his 2007 Red House Records release, Going By Feel, earned the International Folk Alliance’s 2009 Song of the Year Award, placing number one on Folk Radio’s list of most-played songs of 2008, and has recently been covered by Jennifer Warnes on her new album,Another Time, Another Place(May 25th, 2018 BMG).Other notable artists who have recorded his songs include Ronnie Hawkins (“Foolish”) and Slaid Cleaves (“Run Jolee Run”). Ray has shared the bill with heavyweights Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Dr. John, J.J. Cale, and Robert Cray, and has guested on albums by Mary Gauthier, Gurf Morlix, Eliza Gilkyson, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and other prominent musicians.
Bonneville strips his bluesy Americana down to itsessentials and steeps it in a humid, southern vibe, creating a compelling poetry of hard living and deep feeling. Rich guitar and harmonica lines resonate over spare and infectious rhythms, while Bonneville’s deep, evocative voice confesses life’s harsh realities, delivered with his trademark grit and groove.
“Richie has mastered the ability to take Roots Americana in its most August lazy and yet make it seem fresh. It is strange and wonderful.” – Dan Collins, L.A. Record

02/01/2020 - An Evening with Bill Champlin and Special Guest Tamara Champlin- Grammy winning rock, funk, and R&B
Two-time GRAMMY® Award Winner Bill Champlin is known the world over as the soulful singer/keyboardist of the iconic jazz-pop band Chicago. His featured spots on the hits “Look Away” and “Hard Habit to Break” are among his mainstream highlights. But his Songwriting put him on the map and the band he started in the late 60’s called “The Sons of Champlin.”
In 1979, he won his first Grammy® award for co-writing “After the Love is Gone”, which was later recorded by Earth, Wind & Fire. Then in 1981, he won a second Grammy® for co-writing “Turn Your Love Around” for George Benson.
The Sons of Champlin released their first album, “Loosen Up Naturally” in 1969 and followed with six more albums through 1977. In 1982, Bill joined Chicago to record Chicago 16 where he remained for 28 years as lead vocalist/keyboards. In 1988, Chicago released its biggest-selling single and their last No. 1 hit, “Look Away,” featuring Bill on lead vocal.

02/08/2020 - Comedian Liz Grant to headline at Wine and Whimsy on February 8th, 2020
Angels Camp, CA...Liz Grant, a Bay Area comedian will let loose at Wine and Whimsy on February 8th at The Metropolitan in San Andreas. The event, presented by Soroptimist International of Calaveras County, promises to provide an evening of laughter, friendship and wine while benefitting the many local Soroptimist programs.
Soroptimists present education and training awards for women, career support for girls and promote health by offering free lipid panel screenings to Calaveras County women for the entire month of February in partnership with Dignity Health Mark Twain Medical Centers.

This year’s Wine and Whimsy will bring the hilarity to the historic Metropolitan. Originally a hotel, The Met was built at the base of Main Street in San Andreas in 1859. A fire consumed the building in 1926, and in its place a movie theater was constructed in the early 1950s. It was later renovated as a dining hall and performance venue.

Rumor has it that Mark Twain found his inspiration for The Jumping Frog right in the Metropolitan’s luxurious bar-room.

Wine and Whimsy tickets are now available on-line at http://sicalaverascounty.org or by calling 209-753-9700. Admission, including a no-host bar and light appetizers, is $45. Doors open at 6:30 and the show begins at 7:30.
01/18/2020 - Jill & The Giants Will Rock Your World on January 18th
Arnold, CA...Sequoia Woods Country Club is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains, roughly between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park, at an elevation of 4000 feet. The club house is open to the public, with a bar and lounge, dining room and seasonal deli. The beautiful setting can be enjoyed from indoors or outside on the deck, with a view down the main tree-lined golf fairway.

The bar serves food several evenings each week and the restaurant is open for dinner every weekend. The dinner menu has a perfect variety of traditional favorites, with creative and contemporary preparations, and our guests marvel at the quality of cuisine to be found here, in this little mountain hamlet. There is dancing in the lounge every Saturday night, with a DJ or frequent live bands. The deli opens its windows to the deck for an extended summer season, with tasty sandwiches, salads and hot specials. Special group events find our venue especially accommodating and fun. This is a truly lovely place to enjoy good food, good friends and good scenery.
