Fourth of July Fireworks Safety

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/24/2014 08:05 AM
San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County like most of the State is experiencing a severe drought and with these dry conditions the potential for fires is significantly increased. Fireworks are a fun and memorable part of the 4th of July holiday, but can also cause fires and injuries if not properly used. Consider watching a fireworks show in your community rather than creating your own display, but if you are going to use fireworks, please following these recommended tips from the National Council on Fireworks Safety...

How The Glass Buster Was Cured By The Glass Doctor ~ by Terry Grillo

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/24/2014 08:21 AM
Volcano, CA...It began as a normal Saturday, with a few chores and projects - all quite pleasant - and quickly crashed into grief all around me. My wife asked me to hang a very old, hand-colored photograph of her grandparents. It is their wedding photo and dates from around the First World War, so it is probably a century old. Held in a lovely old frame, it’s covered with the kind of raised and curved glass popular in those days, but now found rarely and in antique shops. Joseph Kusic arrived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from his native Slovenia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in the early years the 20th century. Three years later he sent for his intended after she told him that if he didn't get busy and do something about their relationship she was going to marry a fellow from the next village....

Mark Borchin, owner of the Glass Doctor in Jackson, Amador County, holds the restored glass with antique frame and photo that the author dropped right in front of his wife. The photo, frame and new glass, and the ham-fisted hanger survive, thanks to Mr. Borchin.

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/23/2014 01:26 PM
Murphys, CA...Hi everyone, first of all I want to thank all the people of the Mother Lode and all the people from around this great country who have supported me in my walking for Operation Mend. I started this journey back in Sept. 22 of 2008 for Operation Mend and I am amazed at the support I have received. Once again thank you for all your support. Can you believe this, here is one old Marine Vietnam Veteran walking for a cause to help our men and women of today serving and supporting this great country, and I have received checks from as far away the East Coast in support of Operation Mend. So I want to let everyone know that I was asked to walk in the 4th of July parade in Arnold which will be on Saturday July 5th because of my walking for Operation Mend and on that day while walking in the parade I will walk my 6000 mile...

"IF" by Rudyard Kipling...Dedicated to Jay S. Hamilton & Dads Everywhere ~ By John Hamilton (Updated)

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/18/2006 11:23 AM
Denair, CA...We originally posted this for Father's in 2006. My father would turn 101 this year if he were here today. This poem was my father's favorite. This one is dedicated to my Father...Jay S. Hamilton. Dad was born in November of 1916 and died in May of 1991. His life saw deep tragedy but he always rose above it. He was born in a house in rural Oklahoma with no electricity or running water. His Mom burned to death when he was 9 years old from a kerosene lantern fire while he was at home.....

My Parents And Oldest Brother Circa 1943.
