Posted by: thepinetree on 03/02/2022 07:35 AM
Sacramento, CA...The Department of Water Resources (DWR) today conducted the third snow survey of the season at Phillips Station. Following a January and February that will enter records as the driest documented in state history, the manual survey recorded 35 inches of snow depth and a snow water equivalent of 16 inches, which is 68 percent of average for this location for March. The snow water equivalent measures the amount of water contained in the snowpack and is a key component of DWR’s water supply forecast. Statewide, the snowpack is 63 percent of average for this date.

Aklestad and Olstad, take the 2022 Iron Dog Win! Arnold's David Wagner & Team 11 Finished 14th!

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/27/2022 09:31 AM
Wasilla, AK...Third time was the charm in the Iron Dog for Arnold's David Wagner.  After literally crashing and burning on his first two attempts. Well technically it was a burned down sled the first year and a sled broken in the crash the second year. Team 11 of Joseph Hale & David Wagner finished the 2475.00 mile course at an average speed of 30.93 MPH. In this race yes, winning is the goal but finishing in and of itself is a very real and tangible victory! The following is from the Iron Dog race release. Blue sky peeked through horizontal strips of cloud cover as Team 7 raced to victory in the 2022 Iron Dog race, stopping the clock at 11:21 a.m. Saturday. Tyler Aklestad and Nick Olstad, who won the race together in 2020 but scratched in 2021, had a comfortable lead this time around, allowing them to ride cautiously and avoid the pitfalls that befell several of this year’s teams.

Lovely February Specials from Black Sheep Winery

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/26/2022 11:38 AM
Murphys, CA… Black Sheep Winery arrived in Murphys with the 1984 harvest. From that first harvest we produced our 1984 Amador Zinfandel. The wine was styled in a big, bold way like nobody else could do. That’s what makes us Black Sheep; we’re different from the rest of the flock. We feature small batches of limited release wines handcrafted from high quality grapes grown in Calaveras and Amador Counties. We produce about 2,500 cases of wine per year, specializing in Zinfandels and Rhone varietals.
