Wintersports History Program' Decemeber 14 at the Bear Valley Lodge, Cathedral Lounge

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/21/2013 08:18 PM
Bear Valley, CA..The 10th Annual Wintersports History Night is Decemeber 14 at the Bear Valley Lodge, Cathedral Lounge. The honoree this year is Harry Schimke who for many in the area needs no introduction and without Harry and the entire Schimke Family our area would not be the same. The Ebbetts Pass Historical Association was established in the summer of 2003, by a handful of Bear Valley residents, following many discussions of earnest that we should start something to preserve history of our area and make it available to the public. Our goal at the beginning was not only to capture memories of the High Sierra -Hwy 4, but also to gather and preserve the history along the Hwy 4 corridor from Arnold up to the summit...

Murphys Ranchers Make Large Donation of Local Ranch Raised Beef to the Food Bank

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/20/2013 05:37 PM
San Andreas, CA...November 20, 2013 — John and Michelle Rugo of Murphys have been donating ranch raised beef to the Food Bank over the past years. They recently read an article about food needs in Calaveras County and decided to do something about it. They brought in 160 pounds of fresh hamburger and steaks to the Food Bank. They have been long-time supporters of many organizations in the community and Michelle was on the initial Food Bank Community Garden Committee. “We are so grateful for the donation,” said Jeannie Hayward, Food Bank director. “We don’t get a lot of fresh meat because it is so expensive to purchase. We just got green and red bell peppers in – so we will be handing out the hamburger and peppers with a stuffed pepper recipe.”

"B" Street Theatre Company Pleases the "Dickens" Out of Michelson Students

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/15/2013 01:35 AM
Murphys, CA...Michelson students and staff recently welcomed "B" Street Theatre Company from Sacramento for it's 13 year! Thanks to the AME Parent's Club, the students were treated to an incredible theatrical experience in their own gymnasium. "What The Dickens" was the theme for the show which included several small Charles Dickens snippets by 4 very talented actors, including "Mikey" who has been coming to Murphys with the company since the first year. Some of the older students were quick to greet him like an old friend! What makes this show so unique is that the company writes their own original material with a modern and humorous twist, while still maintaining their education goal of teaching and introducing history and literature into their performances...

Hundreds Pay Tribute To Our Veterans in Murphys...Updated with Video

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/13/2013 03:25 PM
Murphys, CA...In honor of Veteran's Day, the Ebbetts Pass Veteran's Memorial District held a very nice ceremony paying tribute and honoring all United States military veterans. It was held at the beautiful creekside monument which is located on Algiers Street across from the Murphys Park. The Calaveras Community Band and Bret Harte High School senior, Brice Gilpin singing the Star Spangled Banner provided the musical accompaniment. Dozens of local veterans attended with a very nice group of WWII veterans. To see the numbers of our WWII vets shrink every year is a sobering reminder how fast we are losing the history living among us as the greatest generation fades away...
