San Andreas, CA....CHP San Andreas collected a mountain of toys in their Chips for Kids toy drive! "We had the pleasure of donating the mountain of toys that we have collected the last few weeks for Chips for Kids to the Resource Connection in San Andreas. The citizens of Calaveras County went above and beyond with their generosity and will really make Christmas happier for lots of Calaveras County children."

Railtown 1897 Seeks Interested Volunteers & Hosts Special Open House On January 28th

Jamestown, CA...Do you enjoy sharing history? Love working as part of a team? Enjoy meeting with people from near and far? California State Parks and Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) are now accepting applications for people interested in volunteering to help communicate the fascinating railroading history of the “Movie Railroad” in the beautiful Sierra foothills. Interested volunteers are encouraged to attend a Volunteer Open House on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteer applications must be submitted by February 6 and a volunteer training program will begin in mid-February. Community members are encouraged to join this worthwhile program that offers an opportunity to support a local state historic park while learning more about California’s rich history, meeting new people and developing friendships with those who share similar interests.

Angels Camp, CA...Our community’s most spectacular holiday presentation starts tonight. Every year, Studio 4 Dance Theater dazzles and amazes audiences with the precision and elegance of its dancers in the timeless and heartwarming story of “The Nutcracker” ballet. The performance runs December 15-17, 2016 at the Bret Harte Theater in Angels Camp. This year, tickets purchased in advance are priced lower than tickets available at the door. Opening night (6pm on Thursday) advanced tickets are $15/adult; $12/youth ages 13-17; $9/children 12 and under; tickets at the door are $18/adult; $15/youth ages 13-17; $12/children 12 and under. Friday and Saturday evenings and Saturday matinee (1pm) advanced tickets are $17/adult; $12/children 12 and under. At the door, tickets are $20/adult; $15/children 12 and under. Murphys, CA...Every year on the first Friday in December, Murphys celebrates the start of the holiday season with a community Open House from 5 to 8 pm on Historic Main Street. Admission is free, the streets are closed to traffic and we are ready to celebrate the winter holidays. A favorite of locals, the annual event is an old-fashioned celebration featuring a parade, holiday treats and entertainment hosted by Main Street merchants, restaurants, wineries and the Murphys Business Association. Musicians and carolers fill the streets with the sounds of the seasons, Santa arrives with the parade and stays for photos with the kids in the Native Sons Hall...

Jackson, CA...Many homeowners in Amador County have ornamental shrubs in their landscape or garden. Many might also be considering adding to the shrubs and have questions about which ones to choose. If this sounds like you, plan on attending the UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County class “Selection and Care of Ornamental Shrubs and Roses” on January 28, 2017. This class will discuss various ornamental shrubs that grow throughout Amador County and the season in which they bloom. We will also discuss the proper time to prune these shrubs, as not all of them are pruned at the same time.
