Juvenile Black Bear Euthanized after Collision with Jeep on Tuolumne Road

Sonora, CA...On December 17, 2019, just after 6:40am, 17-year-old Gregory Crook of Sonora, was driving his 2014 Jeep Wrangler westbound on Tuolumne Road, near Aarondale Road at approximately 45-50 miles per hour. Suddenly a juvenile black bear ran into the roadway from the north shoulder directly in front of Mr. Crooks vehicle. Mr. Crook was unable to stop his vehicle fast enough before hitting the bear.

Matthew J. Winn, 23, of Modesto Perished in Friday Morning Collision on Stockton Road

Sonora, CA...From Sonora, PD...One driver was killed, and one driver was injured in a head-on crash on West Stockton Road near the intersection of Mill Villa Court on Friday morning. A 2016 Nissan Sentra traveling west and a 2016 Ford van heading east on Stockton Road collided when the Nissan crossed over into opposing traffic, resulting in a head-on collision at about 8:30 a.m.

Multiple Major Injuries Including Juvenile Flown to UC Davis in Hwy 108 Collision Near Twain Harte

Twain Harte, CA...On December 11, 2019 at approximately 4:50pm, a 26-year-old female from Twain Harte was driving her 2008 Subaru, with her 1-year-old male juvenile passenger from Twain Harte, on eastbound State Route 108, preparing to make a left turn onto Twain Harte Drive. At that same time, 70-year-old Patrick Vierra of Twain Harte was driving his 2012 Infiniti, with passenger 61-year-old Sandra Vierra of Twain Harte, on westbound State Route 108, east of Twain Harte Drive. The female driver failed to yield the right of way and turned her vehicle directly in front of Mr. Vierra’s vehicle. Mr. Vierra was unable to avoid a collision with the Subaru and the left front of his vehicle collided with the right side of the female driver’s vehicle. After the collision, the female driver’s vehicle traveled westbound on State Route 108 where it came to rest. After coming to rest, her vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames. All the occupants from the vehicle that had caught fire were removed and treated for their injuries. Mr. Vierra’s vehicle traveled northwest and came to rest within the shoulder of State Route 108 and Twain Harte Drive.

Criminal Threats Arrest & Restraint & Compassion By Deputies Prevented "Suicide by Cop"

Burson, CA...On December 7, 2019 at about 9:15PM the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a person who reported that suspect Shane Smith (33 years old of Burson) made a credible threat to kill them. The reporting party informed Sheriff Dispatch that they were in fear of suspect Shane Smith and had fled the residence to a safer location. Suspect Shane Smith also called 911 requesting deputies respond due to a homicide. Deputies responded to a residence in the 11000 block of Wade Lane in Burson to investigate. Prior to arrival they met with another reporting party who stated the suspect had been drinking (alcoholic beverages) heavily and was upset that his car keys were taken from him to prevent him from driving whil e intoxicated.

Collection barrels are located at the San Andreas CHP office, Treats grocery and the VFW in San Andreas, Common Grounds in Valley Springs and the Starbucks in Angels Camp.

Washington, DC...Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today the release of a Review of Four FISA Applications and Other Aspects of the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane Investigation. The DOJ Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG) findings are summarized in the report’s Executive Summary, available at the links below. During this review, the OIG examined more than one million documents that were in the DOJ’s and FBI’s possession and conducted over 170 interviews involving more than 100 witnesses.

Felony DUI Arrest for La Grange Man After Injury Collision

Jamestown, CA...On December 8, 2019 just after 6:00 pm, 68-year-old John William Birdsong of La Grange was driving alone in his 1990 Nissan Pathfinder southbound on State Route 49, North of Fifth Avenue at approximately 50 miles per hour. At that same time, 27-year-old George Hernandez-Mejia of Pittsburg, CA along with 6 occupants were stopped at the red traffic signal for southbound State Route 49 at Fifth Avenue in his 2013 Chevrolet Express Van. Due to Mr. Birdsongs unsafe speed for the stopped traffic ahead of him, he was unable to stop in time before the front of his vehicle crashed into the rear of Mr. Hernandez-Mejia’s vehicle. After the crash, Mr. Birdsong’s vehicle continued to travel off the north shoulder of State Route 49 and down an embankment.

Four Killed in Shooting at Naval Air Station Pensacola

Pensacola, FL...Officials at Naval Air Station Pensacola report that an active shooter incident occurred this morning on the base. Four people are confirmed dead, including the shooter, and there are multiple injuries. The base is still in lockdown as first responders secure the scene. Base security and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service are currently investigating. The names of the victims will not be released until the next of kin have been notified.
