Proposition 47 Linked to Increase in Non-Violent Crime

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/13/2018 09:36 AM
San Francisco, CA....Proposition 47, the state measure that reduced penalties for some property and drug crimes, did not lead to a rise in violent crime. However, larcenies did go up—driven by an increase in thefts from motor vehicles. Proposition 47 also helped reduce the state’s stubbornly high recidivism rates, but this is due in part to changes in law enforcement and prosecutorial practices.

Supreme Court Rules for Masterpiece Cakeshop. Justice Kennedy Delivered the Opinion of the Court.

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/04/2018 09:02 AM
Washington, DC...In 2012 a same-sex couple visited Masterpiece Cakeshop, a bakery in Colorado, to make inquiries about ordering a cake for their wedding reception. The shop’s owner told the couple that he would not create a cake for their wedding because of his religious opposition to same-sex marriages—marriages the State of Colorado itself did not recognize at that time. The couple filed a charge with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission alleging discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in violation of the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act.

Police Department Wife to the Rescue

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/02/2018 09:30 AM
Angels Camp, CA...A great story from the Angels Camp Police Dept..."On 06-01-18, at approximately 3 PM, the Angels Camp PD responded to a call for service at Utica Park. A person visiting the park reported finding a baby owl, and requested assistance with relocating it. The Angels Camp Police Department takes pride in providing professional police services to the community, and that includes responding to calls that may be out of the norm for most police departments. Once our highly skilled and well trained officer was on scene and assessed the situation, he did what any professional police officer would do...he called his wife.
