Calaveras Unified School Closures Due To Butte Fire

San Andrea, CA...Due to the fire off highway 26 and the resulting power outages, school will not be in session on Thursday at Mokelumne Hill, West Point, and Rail Road Flat Elementary Schools. Bus routes in those areas will not be operating so Toyon Middle School and Calaveras High School students from those areas will be impacted. We plan to resume operations Friday at those sites closed today.

Beth Childs/Genna Hurst Scholarship Awarded by Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF)

West Point, CA...The Beth E. Childs/ Genna Hurst Renewable Scholarship administered by the Calaveras Community Foundation was presented during the Awards night at Calaveras High School in early June. The 2015 scholarship committee chose, for the first time ever, to award two scholarships. Timothy Hood and Kenneth Wright were virtually tied based on the committee’s criteria.

Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshops

Arnold, Ca...A new series of six-week workshops is starting in Arnold this month to teach residents with chronic conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression, arthritis or diabetes, the skills to better manage their conditions. The workshops are open to any Calaveras County adults with chronic ongoing conditions and their family members or partners. The no-cost workshops are sponsored by Public Health Services. People with chronic conditions can avoid complications and improve their health through self-management practices. Self-management skills include stress reduction, healthy eating, ensuring good communication with your doctor and physical activity. The workshops are led by trained and certified non-medical community health workers, who also have chronic health conditions and personally understand the challenges. The workshops were developed by Stanford University...

The Hot Dark, one of the most popular rock bands in the foothills, performs their new sound, musical prowess and dexterity for all who come. Everyone from near and far is welcome. Music plays from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, but come early, bring your picnic dinner, and sit back and enjoy the evening. Remember to bring non-alcoholic beverages of choice. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on school property...

Angels Camp, CA...The Bret Harte Boys capped off a perfect 16-0 Season on Friday with a Mother Lode League Varsity Championship on their home water. It was the best results in the team's 14 year history. The Lady Frogs hopped into second and Calaveras Boys were Third and the Girls were fourth. Taxpayers Promoting Constitution

Copperopolis, CA...The Calaveras County Taxpayers Association (CCTA) is launching an outreach effort to promote constitutional principles through distribution of a booklet, The US Constitution and Fascinating Facts About It, to public officials and other leaders in Calaveras County. The group's President, Al Segalla, said "The first batch of booklets will be presented to county supervisors at the board meeting on Tuesday, February 25. More copies will be presented to other officials, educators and leaders in the near future. A Constitution contest with prizes for students is being considered. CCTA previously sponsored a student contest for posters and essays and the proud winners were presented awards from Congressman, Tom McClintock."
