Copper Chili Cook Off’ at Copperopolis Town Square Is February 27

Copperopolis, CA...Copperopolis Town Square – the Castle & Cooke California-owned events, shopping and entertainment gathering place in Calaveras County – has rescheduled its eighth-annual “Copper Chili Cook Off” to Saturday, February 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It was originally scheduled for January 16, but postponed due to weather. Organizers are seeking cook off competitors for the always-entertaining event. Each team will receive two special gifts and awards will be given in 10 categories. The entrance fee is $20. Guests who wish to taste the chili can do so for $5 (children under 12 are free). All event proceeds will be donated to the Copperopolis Fire Fighters Association.

Murphys, CA...Multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated band Goo Goo Dolls will hit the road in July for an extensive summer headlining tour of amphitheaters and arenas. Also on the bill as direct support are Collective Soul and Tribe Society. The tour come to Ironstone Amphitheatre on Friday, July 15th! Goo Goo Dolls — made up of vocalist-guitarist John Rzeznik and bassist Robby Takac — will be touring in support of their new album, entitled Boxes, which is due for release from Warner Bros. Records this spring.
Angels Camp, CA...Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort Men’s Club Member Dan Lippstreu scored a HOLE IN ONE!! Dan, known affectionately by his friends as “Lipper” drained his Tee Shot, Monday, February 15th on hole #3 using a 5 iron from 143 yards. Lipper told his playing partners, “I’m teeing the ball up to hit a high shot, so when the ball hits the green it will land softly.” It did just that and rolled into the hole!

Murphys, CA...Mark Your Calendar - March 19, 2016 - Murphys Irish Day - Each year on the third Saturday in March, Murphys shuts down Main Street and prepares to celebrate like only the Irish can. Join us for a parade at 11 am, stay to eat, taste and shop the Irish Day booths, local tasting rooms and stores of Murphys, buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win our famous trip to Ireland and enjoy day long live music, dancing and Celtic entertainment on our two stages. Event opens at 10 am and you'll want get here early to grab a good spot to watch the parade. Free parking will be available at Ironstone Vineyards with a free shuttle to town from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Paid parking will be available at the corner of Big Trees & Main, weather allowing. Accessible parking will be available behind Alchemy and the Arbors Shopping Center. Main Street will be closed to traffic from 6 am to 6 pm. Start your day with a Pancake breakfast at the First Congregational Church and end it with dinner at one of Murphys great restaurants.

Angels Camp, CA...Recently The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce held it's 2016 Awards Dinner at CAMPS Restaurant at Greenhorn Creek. It was a great night that led off with a keynote by Senator Tom Berryhill who represents the citizens of Amador, Calaveras, Inyo, Mariposa, Mono, Tuolumne counties as well as parts of Fresno, Madera, Sacramento, Stanislaus, and Tulare counties. Many in our local business community have been going all out in the wake of the Butte Fire to get our county and it's residents back to normal. Many of the awards were influenced by the efforts of individuals and businesses that have been making a difference.

Murphys, CA...Ping pong and tennis enthusiasts will share the spotlight when the Murphys Area Community Tennis Association (MACTA) stages a double-barreled event at the group’s Wintercreek Facility and the adjacent Lions Club Hall on Saturday, March 5, starting at 9 a.m. Both facilities are located behind the historic schoolhouse on Jones St. in Murphys. Pongfest ’16, a ping pong tournament open to everyone, will take place in the Lions Club Hall. A doubles round robin will be held in the morning with singles and consolation brackets in the afternoon. Interested players should sign up by contacting tournament organizer Jim Triolo, 795-3183, mario22@prodigy.net. Participation is limited to 40 players so early registration is advised.
