Country is Back at the Calaveras County Fair Here comes "Little Texas"

Angels Camp, CA...Little Texas was responsible for shaking up the country music world with a new, energetic sound that fused the look and attitude of modern rock music with traditional country themes and styles, bringing a much appreciated bolt of life into the genre. For their efforts, country fans the world over richly rewarded the band, buying up over 7 million of their albums, while critics showered them with 3 Grammy nominations plus honors from both the Academy of Country Music (Vocal Group Of The Year) and the Country Music Association (Album Of The Year).
Angels Camp, CA...If you ventured out into the snow country over the past holiday season, you no doubt saw just how excited we humans were to see the white stuff after four years of scant snowfall. Highway turnouts were packed with vehicles, some chaining up the tires, others just parked for roadside snowmen and selfies, and the sledders were everywhere! It was fun to see, and sometimes a little scary with such proximity to a principal highway, so we thought a little guide to Calaveras’ better places to sled was in order for this month. From roadside slopes to pay-to-play facilities with restrooms and sled rentals, we’ve rounded up a handful of options to help you have a safe and fun snow day next time you venture up.
Mountain Melody Adds Bob Eisenman Jazz Trio to their Ovations 2016 Performance

Angels Camp, CA...The ladies of Mountain Melody Women’s Chorus will open the 2016 season of the Calaveras Arts Council’s Ovations Performing Arts Series on Sunday, January 10 at the Dr. Elliott Smart Performing Arts Center at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp. The box office opens at 2:00p and the performance begins at 3:00pm and ends at 5:00pm. The Butte Fire has impacted Calaveras County in a very personal way. It has changed our landscape but not our hearts. The fire started as the Ovations lineup was being decided and the Ovations committee felt that this season would have special attention on the healing. We believe that art is instrumental in healing process. Several ladies lost their homes to the Butte Fire and as we all know, Art Heals.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review – Return of the Franchise ~By Brett Bunge
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/04/2016 09:52 PM
Hollywood, CA...Does Star Wars really need a review? You’d be hard pressed to find a more multigenerational and beloved film franchise, and the new film—Episode VII to be precise—was guaranteed to be a massive hit no matter what, bound to succeed on its legacy alone. The Force Awakens is practically hardwired to tap into this nostalgia shared by millions of fans (and, in the interest of full disclosure, I include myself among this number), with its emphasis on practical effects, location shots, and more of the classic elements of the series.
Fireworks In Bear Valley Start Off 2016 With A Bang! ~ Photos By Neil Hunt

Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Village has been the center of local New Year's celebrations for years. This year was no exception with Jeff Campbell, Megan Slankard & DJ Halftrack providing the music followed by the balloon drop at midnight. Then the revelers make their way outside to witness a great fireworks show. Neil Hunt, his family & friends have another Bear Valley New Year's Tradition. They don snowshoes and trek to the top of Bloods Ridge and enjoy the fireworks with the snow and mountains as the backdrop. We would like to thank Neil for sharing a few photos with us again this year. Happy New Year Everyone!! May 2016 be a great one...
