Beardsley Day Use Area Opens Today

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/14/2014 07:24 PM
Sonora, Calif. (February 14, 2014)… Now in the final stage of improvements associated with a hydro re-licensing that only happens once every 40 years, the Stanislaus National Forest (NF) is opening Beardsley Day Use Area today. “The day use area has remained closed while we negotiated the last of the punch list with the contractor and Tridam, the licensee,” said Molly Fuller, District Ranger, Stanislaus NF. “I needed assurances from Tridam on the last of the work that would be completed before we opened. We now have that assurance, and are opening the gate for public access.”

After being closed since last September, Beardsley Day Use Area is now open to the public. Access to the boat ramp remains closed, due to current water levels in the Beardsley Reservoir. Water levels would need to raise approx. an additional 12 to 15 ft. before the ramp could open. In the photo, U.S. Forest Service employees Daniel Hewett, Visitor Information Specialist and Brendan Kelly, Recreation Technician install public warning posts at the base of the boat ramp. When water levels rise enough for the boat ramp to open, the posts will be removed. (U.S. Forest Service photo).

Bear Valley Cross Country Says "Thank You Mother Nature!"

Posted by: thepinetree on 02/13/2014 05:47 AM
Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Cross Country was blessed by Mother Nature this week when we received a whopping four feet of new snow! The snow level was predicted to be above 7,500 feet, but luckily the snow level stayed below Bear Valley. We could not have asked for more perfect snow conditions for the upcoming Presidents' Holiday Weekend and Ski Week. Aspen Forest, Bjornloppet, Quick Connect, Osborne Ridge, Ridgerunner, Stanislaus Lookout, as well as all of the meadows trails, and the tubing and sledding areas are all open and groomed. By Friday afternoon, we plan to have Equipe groomed too. Come up to Bear Valley and enjoy the best conditions of the season!
