Murphys, CA...Join the Independence Hall Quilters at Ironstone Vineyards for the 40th Annual Mountain Heirloom Quilt Faire. For only $8.00 admission*, guests can view the gallery of quilts, wall hangings, wearable art, needle art, and dolls. Member challenge and popular “Wonky” exhibits will also be on display. There will be a diverse selection of vendor booths to shop at, as well as Independence Hall Quilters Boutique of hand-crafted items and the Country Store filled with cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, candies and special delights.

College Station, TX...The George H. W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation helped organize a relief concert at Texas A&M’s Reed Arena the evening of October 21st that featured former Presidents Obama, Bush 43, Clinton, Bush 41 and Carter joined by top music performers. All ticket sales and other proceeds from the “Deep From the Heart: The One America Appeal” concert went to the special hurricane recovery effort launched last month by the five living former U.S. presidents.

Railtown 1897 to Honor Military Veterans with Complimentary Train Rides and Park Admission on Veterans Day

Jamestown, CA...To honor their service and celebrate the patriotic holiday, California State Parks, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation are proud to offer veterans and active military personnel with complimentary excursion train rides plus complimentary Park admission on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Veteran and active military personnel are encouraged to wear their uniforms with pride while enjoying a special excursion train ride behind diesel locomotive No. 1265, a 1952 former Army diesel which last served at the Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant. The special diesel locomotive will be operated by a number of crew members who are also military veterans. Excursion train rides are available at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on this special day, delighting visitors from near and far during a six-mile, 45-minute round trip ride along the rails of the famous “Movie Railroad” while passing through California’s scenic Gold Country. All train ride tickets on Veterans Day are first-come, first-served.
Men's Health is Workshop Focus for the Month of November

San Andreas, CA...Men’s health is the topic of a free workshop on Nov. 9 at Mark Twain Medical Center. “Tackle Your Health” is the theme for the 10 a. m. to noon event focusing on lifestyle and health resources for men. A variety of presenters and health resource organizations will be featured and lunch is included. There is limited seating. Call 754-5919 for reservations and information. “Tackle Your Health” is part of MTMC’s ongoing series of “A Plan 4 Me” free planning workshops. It is co-sponsored by MTMC and the Mark Twain Health Care District. The district is providing a donated San Francisco 49ers DeForest Buckner laser-engraved football valued at $50 to be awarded at the workshop along with “Tackle Your Health” tee-shirts.

Murphys, CA...Tennis players from throughout the Motherlode are invited to sign up for the Murphys Area Community Tennis Association (MACTA) Mixed Doubles Tournament to be held Saturday, October 14th at Bret Harte High School, in Angels Camp, and MACTA’s Wintercreek Facility located behind the historic schoolhouse on Jones St. in Murphys. Entry deadline is October 11th, but those interested in taking part are encouraged to enter as soon as possible.

Laitinen states, "Twenty years ago my wife and I chose Mountain Ranch, uprooting home, studio, family and pets to a beautiful place tucked away in Calaveras County. The now infamous Butte Fire swept through our area and destroyed all that we had built for those years. Crossing California is a rising from the ashes exhibit as a way of moving forward from catastrophe."
