East Bay Rhythm and Blues Big Band Heads to Angels Camp for “Music in the Parks"

Angels Camp, CA....The band that earned the accolade of “Best Band” in a recent readers poll of an East Bay publication will be performing at the August 13 “Music in the Parks” concert in Utica Park of Angels Camp. The Delta Wires will be presented by the Calaveras County Arts Council starting at 6:30 pm. Bring picnics, chairs, and plan on having a rousing good time in the spacious tree-shaded park that is located on Highway 49 and Sams Way.....

The Dorrington Hotel Announces the Unveiling of the Newly Renovated Hotel Along with A New Executive Chef....Daniel Quint!

Dorrington, CA.....If you haven’t taken a ride “up the hill” in awhile it’s about time that you did. A short 2½ miles past the Calaveras Big Trees State Park, a short 6 miles past Arnold and 16 miles from Murphys is the town of Dorrington. Dorrington was named for Rebekah Dorrington Gardner who was married to John Gardner. Their beloved granddaughter was Reba Blood, which Mt. Reba was named after. The Dorrington Hotel was also their home and was a stop on the Big Trees Carson Valley Road and was also a depot for the stockmen and a summer resort. ....

On Friday, September 12th, 2008 they will celebrate the beginning of harvest with a clam bake in the vineyards! Be prepared to get sloppy with incredible food paired with great wines. Learn about the process of a winegrape harvest and the effects of terroir on a vintage of wine. Live music, mother nature will supply the moon. Reception at 6 p.m., dinner to follow in the Merlot Field.....

Arnold, CA...The “Chicks” were at it again this weekend! This time they brought their famous barbeque to Sequoia Woods Country Club, and the sold-out crowd had a great time. The Tipsy Chicks are the four local women – Sheryl Holshevnikoff, Jane McKeever, Bev Ravazza, and Kelly Russell – who won the “Viewer’s Choice Award” at the Second Annual Ironstone BBQ....

New Classes on Television Production begin September 9, 2008

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras residents are fortunate to have their own public access television studio where local events are produced for cable channels 7 and 9. Ed Lark, the manager at the Public Access Television Studio, will be starting a new television class (lasting 11 weeks) that will teach you the basics of video production including the care and use of a camcorder, tripod, wireless microphone, lighting equipment, as well as editing techniques. These classes are supported by the County and are free to Calaveras County residents. Classes are held at the studio every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Classes are limited to 16 students since much of the instruction involves hands-on use of the equipment....

Copperopolis Town Square to Host "Hot Copper Days" This Saturday August 16th...Video and Slide Show of Last Year's Event Enclosed

Copperopolis, CA...Copperopolis Town Square will host Hot Copper Days, a vintage car show sponsored by the Lake Tulloch Lions Club of Calaveras County on August 16 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pre-registration entry fees are $15, and $20 at the gate, day-of-admission. Awards are bestowed for first and second place in 13 car classes, with judging taking place from 1 to 3 p.m. Also awarded will be “Best in Show” and the “Copperopolis Town Square Manager’s Award,” as selected by Billie B. Kane. The first 100 entries will receive free souvenir dash plaques, courtesy of Copperopolis Town Square. “With its first phase completed and a host of new businesses open and flourishing, Copperopolis Town Square is a lively, ideal setting for local events and festivals,” says Kane, Director of Properties for Castle & Cooke...
