Columbia, CA...Friends of Columbia State Historic Park is proud to once again host the Stories in Stone Cemetery Tour at the historic Columbia Cemetery on September 23, 24, 25 and October 1. This once-a-year evening event will be led by costumed volunteers holding lanterns to light the way. Guests will stop at specific gravesites where stories of those who have lived and died in Columbia will be told by some very convincing characters! Listen to some funny, some sad and some horrendous stories from these people who lived during a different period of time and shaped the town’s history.

San Andreas, CA...On Saturday, September 10th SNAC sponsored the Grand Opening Tournament for Calaveras County's newest Disc Golf Course. The course features 18 tone poles that have been painted by local artists and fellow disc golfers. 44 players and their friends & family turned out to play two 18 hole rounds. A special thanks goes out to the San Andreas Recreation & Parks District, Hwy 4 Disc Golf and the countless volunteers who worked to bring disc golf to San Andreas.

Railtown 1897 Offers “Harvest Haunt Express” Train Rides Every Weekend In October |

Jamestown, CA... California State Parks, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation are proud to offer family-friendly “Harvest Haunt Express” train rides on all weekends in October 2016. With the train whimsically decorated for Halloween and staffed by a “skeleton crew,” the popular train rides take place aboard an excursion train that departs at 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. On Saturdays, the excursion train will be pulled by Sierra No. 3™ (the “Movie Star Locomotive”) and on Sundays by a vintage diesel locomotive. Train ride guests are encouraged to get in the spirit and dress up according to these fun weekly themes: Monster Mash (October 1-2), Critters & Creatures (October 8-9), Superheroes & Villains (October 15-16), Pirates & Princesses (October 22-23) and Witches & Wizards (October 29-30).

According to folklore, the Dotaku bells were used for about 400 years, from 200 BC to 200 CE to warn of invasion. They were richly decorated with patterns representing nature and animals.

Avery, CA...The Avery Hotel is the place to be on Saturday, September 17 from 4-9 pm when Manzanita Writers Press breaks in this newly revitalized historic landmark with ArtsHarvest, a Dinner Dance Party featuring the high-energy, genre-bending Americana music of Mumbo Gumbo. Those who have enjoyed music and camaraderie at the hotel over the years will appreciate the artful facelift it has received in the last nine months under the direction of Fred Baker of Sheep Ranch and his partners Jimmy Sedge and Andy McCardi. They have been working diligently to bring the 1850s treasure back to life. Fred’s vision is to create the Avery Social Club, where local groups and private parties can hold events. History is important to Baker, and he was instrumental in the resurrection of the Pioneer Hotel and the Dance Hall in Sheep Ranch, as well as other notable estates.
