Lake Alpine has been steady early in the morning and late in the evening when it has been cooler. Trollers should try Apex, Needlefish, and Rapala's behind a small dodger tipped with a nightcrawler or try a flasher/nightcrawler combo, you should be fishing at slow speed. Fly fishermen have had success using midge flies, woolly buggers, nymphs, and sparrow nymphs in the late evening. Bank fishermen should try inflated nightcrawlers, Gulp Power Eggs, Gulp Power Bait, Gulp Nightcrawlers, floating Power Eggs,and salmon eggs. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Panther Martin spinners, and Rooster Tails....

Labor Day weekend was a busy weekend along the Highway 4 corridor. Although it was packed in most places it did not discourage the fishermen. Lake Alpine has been pumping out bigger fish due to the recent trout plants and cooler nights. Christian Burns, a young customer, caught a huge 5lb. 1 oz. rainbow trout on Sunday August 31st. Great catch Christian.....

Labor Day weekend is this upcoming weekend. Make sure to reserve your favorite campground or cabin. Lake Alpine has been prducing some nicer fish due to the recent trout plants and cooler nights. Trollers should try Apex, Needlefish, and Rapala's behind a small dodger tipped with a nightcrawler or try a flasher/nightcrawler combo. New Melones, this impoundment on the Stanislaus watershed continues to produce the finest Kokanee fishing here in Northern California. Kokes over two pounds are very common as witnessed by Ron Peterson of Sonora who took an easy limit on 8-08-08 off the spillway at 105'. Most of Ron's catch came on Uncle Larry's Spinners or Glitterbug Glow Hootchies scented with garlic Shoepeg corn trailed behind a Shasta Tackle U.V. Slingblade.....

New Melones, CA....Water Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 1,213,243 acre-feet of water. The lake water level dropped three feet last week and is at 970 ft. above sea level and 118 ft. from full capacity. Water in the main lake is approximately 76-79 degrees. Water is gin clear in the main lake, with a strong mud line forming at shore. ....
