09:00 AM - 01:00 PM Murphys Farmers Market is Every Sunday From 9am - 1pm
Murphys, CA...The Murphys Farmers Market Sponsored by Calaveras Grown and supported by the Murphys Community Club. “Murphys has needed a community farmers market for a long time and this is just another reason to come into Murphys on a Sunday morning and enjoy the park and town” stated Sue Friedman of the Murphys Community Club.

The market runs from 9am to 1pm every Sunday. The farmers participating in the market offer a myriad of fresh produce grown within Calaveras County. All producers are free from artificial pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers and naturally grown. Most incorporate permaculture and regenerative practices in their farming. Popular food vendors at the market included Pure Mountain Smoothies, a newly formed business in Calaveras and the baked goods by Butter and Cream out of Arnold who brought 80 loaves of bread, dozens of baked goods, muffins and cookies and was sold out within the first hour of the market.

Although the park is full of vendors selling locally produced goods, produce and crafts, there is still plenty of areas to enjoy the parks picnic tables, grass and creek. “We listened to the community who wanted to make sure the park was not overrun with vendors and not accessible to families and visitors so we made sure to keep the creek and gazebo accessible so kids could still play and people could still enjoy a picnic in the park or set up blankets on the grass. We heard from a lot of visitors that the extra activities and opportunities to shop the market was an extra perk to visiting Murphys park” said Freya Borean, event coordinator of the market.

Although a small market by comparison to others in the neighboring counties, the Murphys Farmers Market was made up of many small farms and producers and all were local to Calaveras County. “We are delighted with all these new farms and new members to Calaveras Grown and pleased to have another farmers market in the county that offers them an opportunity to connect to their community and build their businesses” stated Billie Hammer, president of Calaveras Grown. “And we have our long term members attending like John's Natural Food Products selling grass fed beef and free range chicken. Now there is something for everyone to source food from our local Calaveras producers.”

The Murphys Farmers Market is being co-managed by Micalah Frey and Freya Borean, who both grew up in Calaveras County. Because the park can only hold a limited number of vendors, they had to be selective when extending applications to vendors to join the market. “Our number one goal for this market, stated Micalah Frey, is to create a community hub for a localized food system. We will be adding a few more vendors including olive oil and vinegar, local honey and farm fresh eggs and we have a full list of workshops that we will be hosting every week including workshops on fermenting, seed saving, permaculture, and beekeeping from local agricultural experts. We also will be hosting yoga, live music, a farm to kitchen walk of the market with a local chef, art lessons, indigo dying and music play for kids.”

The Murphys Farmers Market runs weekly on Sundays mornings starting at 9am thru 1pm with the exception of July 21st where the park will be hosting a previously scheduled event for the Murphys School of Music. Visitors are encouraged to come early for best selection and to take part in one of the weekly activities. For more info email murphysfarmersmarket@gmail.com or follow on Murphys Farmers Market on Facebook.

02:00 PM "Moon Over Buffalo" Continues on at Murphys Creek Theatre
Murphys, CA...“The Show Must Go On!” In Murphys Creek Theatre’s 2019 summer production. In Ken Ludwig’s MOON OVER BUFFALO, all character stop at nothing to live up to that infamous phrase. The play follows George and Charlotte Hay, fading stage and film stars of the 1950s. At the moment, they're playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York… with only five actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George's dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra, Mr. Hollywood himself, is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie Twilight of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George, Charlotte and their devoted company manager Paul Singer, everything that could go wrong does go wrong. The chaos is aided by a visit from their daughter, Roz, her clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they're actually performing. Adding more fuel to the comedic fire is Charlotte’s deaf, stage manager Mother who despises George with every fiber of her being.

Ken Ludwig is a two-time Olivier Award-winning playwright who has written over 26 plays and musicals, including 6 shows on Broadway and 7 in London's West End. His first Broadway play, Lend Me A Tenor, won two Tony Awards and was called "one of the classic comedies of the 20th century" by The Washington Post. His other awards include the Helen Hayes Award, the 2017 Samuel French Award for Sustained Excellence in the American Theatre, the Edgar Award for Best Mystery of the Year, and the Edwin Forrest Award for Contributions to the American Theater. His book How To Teach Your Children Shakespeare, published by Penguin/Random House, won the Falstaff Award for Best Shakespeare Book of the Year, and his essays are published by the Yale Review. Ken's best known works include Crazy For You (5 years on Broadway, Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Musical), Lend Me A Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo, The Game's Afoot, Baskerville, Sherwood, A Fox on the Fairway, and a stage version of Murder on the Orient Express, written expressly at the request of the Agatha Christie Estate. His work has been performed in over 30 countries in more than 20 languages, and is produced somewhere in the United States and abroad every night of the year.

The show is directed by MCT Artistic Director, Robbie Allen. He last directed MCT’s 2018 production of The Mousetrap, and was last seen onstage this year in The Whipping Man and Barefoot in the Park.

“I absolutely love this play,” says Allen, “It is hilarious from start to finish and the characters are incredibly rich and fun. The play relies heavily on situational and farcical comedy, while still delivering very human and relatable character arcs. The writing is phenomenal and makes my job easy.” He also adds, “The cast we’ve assembled is incredible and such a joy to work with.”

Moon Over Buffalo stars: Sid Marsh as George Hay, Elaine Saculla as Charlotte Hay, Todd Thomas as Paul Singer, Alyson Wren as Roz Hay, Sharon Perras as Ethel, Michael Crich as Richard, Charlie Cites as Eileen and Colten Minehart as Howard.

The play runs JUNE 21st – JULY 14th . Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights at 7pm and Sundays at 2pm. Murphys Creek Theatre is located at
580 S. Algiers St. Murphys CA
