All Day Boogie Woogie Over To SRT’s Bulwark Of A Basement
Columbia, CA...The Church Basement Ladies return to the Sierra Repertory’s Fallon House Theatre October 14 through November 27 in A Mighty Fortress Is Our Basement. Directed by original Sierra Rep church lady Becky Saunders, the production will feature a brand new cast along with upbeat, fun new songs and story.

cbl1
The year is 1960, and a reformation is underway. Against the changing tide, the Church Basement Ladies stand strong in their faith and in their friendships. Beverly, the young daughter of Karin, gets her first pair of high heels for confirmation; their very nervous Pastor makes it to the alter on time; Mrs. Snustad and Mrs. Gilmerson plan a food booth at the County Fair to raise money; and Mrs. Engelson embarks on a spontaneous driving lesson.

The Lutheran pastor's pretty young girlfriend causes some commotion among the faithful and no one is taking it harder than senior stateswoman Vivian, played by SRT newcomer Regina Harbour. Young Beverly, played by Elizabeth McMonagle (The Robber Bridegroom, The Spitfire Grill, Putnam County Spelling Bee), is caught between being a girl and becoming a woman as she awaits her confirmation during a time when women's liberation is just beginning to be a topic of discussion. Her mother, Karin, played by local actress Catherine Gordon (SRT’s Dames At Sea, One Foot On The Floor, Gold Dust), is on an emotional rollercoaster that has her veering between tirades and tears, while Mavis, played by another local actress, Debi Woodall (SRT’s The Sound of Music, Damn Yankees, Big River), is a salt-of-the-earth type who is worried about losing part of her farm to Eisenhower’s new interstate. The pastor, played by Christopher Vettel (Church Basement Ladies, Les Misérables), is quite the nervous groom and delivers a sort of running commentary from the pulpit, not of Bible verses but rather the often-ridiculous church "news" unfolding around him.

Director Becky Sanders played Mavis in the first in the series of The Church Basement Ladies and the sequel, A Second Helping. In addition, she just appeared in the The Robber Bridegroom and directed Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike and last season’s Always, Patsy Cline. Other performances include Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, Disney’s Beauty and The Beast and The Honky Tonk Angels.

A Mighty Fortress Is Our Basement opens Friday, October 14 and runs through Sunday, November 27 with performances Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Thursdays at either 2 or 7 p.m. A special “Talk Back” performance is Thursday, October 27. Tickets are from $32 to $37, with senior, student and child discounts available. The show is rated G. For tickets and information visit www.sierrarep.org or call the Box Office at 209-532-3120.

12:00 AM - 12:00 AM Acme Art Encourages You To "Think Outside Of The Box" This October
Molelumne Hill, CA...As many readers may know, Acme Art in Mokelumne Hill is known for being both a “Stress Free Zone’ and a “Creative Playground”. This month we are encouraging you to “Think out of the Box”, dispel any ideas that you “are not an artist” and join us for one of our Wednesday, Schnickle nights or Saturday morning Workshops.

p1030564
Night time Schnickle Art is held from 6pm to 8pm, beginning on the second Wednesday, and running through the end of the Month.

On Wednesday, October 12th and 26th, we will be painting, stamping and decoupaging, small wooden “memory boxes”. For a $25 fee you will enjoy two hours of camaraderie and creativity; including light snacks and your own preferred beverage. Best of all you will leave with a one of a kind decorated box; perfect to keep or give as a gift. Deborah Marlene and Lynne Sutton, will serve as your Hostesses, for this project.

Wednesday, October 19th you will explore mixed media composing and loosening up with acrylics with Marchand Heinmann. Come and join her to get a wonderful instruction in using acrylic paints.

Saturday, workshops have been requested for our popular class of Alcohol Inks on Tile, and we deliver! Tile decorating workshops will be offered on October 8th and October 22nd, from 10am-12pm. This medium is fun for all; with supplies included. No prior knowledge is required. In this Workshop you will have 2 hours to complete 2 tiles. These are beautiful works of wall Art to keep or gift in the upcoming holidays. You may reserve a spot by calling 209 286-8040, class size is limited to 10., drop ins are welcome.

On Saturday, October 15th 10am-12pm you will find Deborah Marlene, sharing her love of Watercolors in the “Fabulous Fall Leaves” class. No drawing talent is necessary for this class. We will be tracing or stamping leaves to paint and you will leave with a 5” x 7” one of a kind Fall Painting. This is a good class in which to learn some of the basics of watercolors.

Deborah Marlene also holds private Watercolor lessons at Acme Art. Join her if you have painted before and want to “brush up” a bit or if you are new to watercolor. She will share her joy of this medium and show you how much fun you can have painting with Watercolors. Class fees are $50 for a two-hour class, with all materials included. If you have your own brushes and paints $45 is the charge for instruction.

The last Saturday, October 29th will be a time to make a Halloween or Fall decoration. Exact project will be posted at Acme Art – so stop in and check it out!

The days are getting shorter and getting out and enjoying an Art Class could get you into a fun Hobby for the long winter months. We hope to see you soon! At Acme Art Moke Hill, your “Creative Playground”.
