13th Annual Hermitfest Music Festival is the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Celebration Ebbetts Pass, CA...The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway Association (EPSBA) presents the 13th annual scenic byway celebration, known as Hermitfest, on Saturday, September 7th from 11 am – 8pm. This quintessentially Californian, early-fall music festival takes place in Hermit Valley in the Stanislaus National Forest, 38 miles east of Arnold and 23 miles west of Markleeville on the North Fork of the Mokelumne River and features outdoor performances by an array of local musicians.
This year’s lineup includes Bodie Goi Band, Beans Souza, Bill Welles Band, Grover Anderson and the Lampoilers, and the Hermitfest Allstar Band. Music starts at 11:00 am, and officially ends at 8:00 pm, but the joyful celebration of this gorgeous stretch of Sierra-straddling highway often continues around the campfires late into the evening.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase along with locally made artisanal items. Telescopes will be set up for stargazing, and experts will be on hand to help identify planets, constellations and stories of the night sky beginning at 9:00 pm, weather permitting.
Primitive campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis for those wishing to spend the night. There are sites in the immediate vicinity of the event as well as a few more on the river side of the road. Additional camping is available nearby in the beautiful Pacific Valley campgrounds. Well-socialized dogs are welcome if kept on a six-foot leash and not left unattended. For those planning to spend the night, there will be late night treats and coffee and goodies on Sunday morning.
Attendees are advised to dress in layers and bring warm clothing since although Fall weather in Hermit Valley (elevation: 7,000 ft) is generally warm, quick afternoon showers are possible and mornings and evenings can be chilly. The route along Highway 4 includes some narrow, twisty and steep sections at the higher elevations between Lake Alpine on the west and Silver Creek on the east side, so large RVs and trailers are not recommended. The pass from either side includes spectacular mountain scenery, so planning extra time for pulling over at designated spots for some sightseeing is highly recommended. For those interested in additional activities on the way to or from the celebration, a stop at the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce offices in downtown Markleeville is a great option for obtaining maps, cold drinks and lots of information about things to do over the weekend. On the Arnold side, the Sierra Nevada Logging Museum’s creative displays are always worth checking out. Next to the parking lot is a trailhead to the dog-friendly Arnold Rim Trail for hikers and mountain bikers. Just 5 minutes away, Calaveras Big Trees State Park gives easy access to trails with spectacular Giant Sequoias. The pools at Grover Hot Springs State Park, outside Markleeville, are expected to be open but calling 530-694-2248 to double check is recommended.
In 2005, Ebbetts Pass was honored with National Scenic Byway status. It is one of only seven nationally-designated byways in California. The EPSBA is the non-profit organization tasked with preserving, enhancing and promoting the unique resources of the byway. Ride The Rails Into History at Railtown 1897 Jamestown, CA...Ride behind a historic steam or diesel locomotive on a train trip through California’s scenic Gold Country. Your 6-mile, 45-minute roundtrip train ride will take you past the water tower from Petticoat Junction, and transport you from the backyards of Jamestown to the rugged hillsides of California’s Mother Lode country. At the end of the line (Rock Spur), your train will pause as the locomotive uncouples, runs around your car on a side track, then re-couples to the train’s opposite end for the return trip to Railtown.

2019Annual Hazardous Household Event Calaveras County's Annual Residential Hazardous Waste Collection Events will be held Saturday, Sept 7th from 9am-1pm at the San Andreas Government Center located at 891 Mountain Ranch Road and at the Arnold County Road Yard located at 1191 Linebaugh Road. On Sunday, September 8th, the event will be held at 9am-1pm at the West Point Cal Trans Yard located at 22412 Highway 26.
The event is open to the residents of Calaveras & Alpine County only and proof of residency will be required, either a current driver's license or a copy of your current tax bill that shows a property related solid waste fee.

John and Daniel’s cries of “Gold!” were among the first heard in California. It is reported that the brothers took two million dollars in gold ore from the Murphys Diggins in one year’s time, making them millionaires before the age of 25. The sizzling Gold Rush camp of Murphys also played host to President Grant, Mark Twain and Black Bart. And in some circles, to an even more famous chap – a young, inquisitive lad who literally changed the scientific world, Dr. Albert Michelson.

Spend the Summer at Big Trees State Park. Guided Hikes Every Weekend Arnold, CA...Calaveras became a State Park in 1931 to preserve the North Grove of giant sequoias. This grove includes the "Discovery Tree", also known as the "Big Stump", the first Sierra redwood noted by Augustus T. Dowd in 1852. This area has been a major tourist attraction ever since, and is considered the longest continuously operated tourist facility in California.

The Coffis Brothers & The Mountain Men are a rootsy rock n’ roll band born and raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Deep Purple with Foghat and Joyous Wolf Bring Legendary Classic Rock to Ironstone Murphys, CA...With a body of work spanning seven decades, Deep Purple has helped pioneer and define the hard rock genre whilst progressively moving into new areas to keep their sound fresh and attract new fans to the legions who have remained loyal since the band’s inception. There simply aren’t enough superlatives to properly acknowledge the contribution Deep Purple has made to rock music. Having sold more than 100 million albums and filled global arenas for decades, it’s little wonder respected British radio station Planet Rock named the group the ‘5th Most Influential Band Ever’, whilst VH1 ranked them #22 on its ‘Greatest Artists of Hard Rock’ list. Additionally, Deep Purple was given the ‘Legend Award’ at the 2008 World Music Awards and, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. These guys truly are ‘rock royalty’
Foghat fans are everywhere and these days their audience consists of all ages. From the young kids who play Guitar Hero III and know all of the lyrics to ‘Slow Ride’, to the Dazed & Confused generation of 30-40 somethings and the ‘boomers’ who bought Foghat’s first vinyl or 8 track! Looking out at the audience and seeing all of the generations rockin’ to Foghat is very gratifying to the band. According to lead singer Charlie Huhn, “the band just wants to make sure that after every show, they are all convinced that they just got rocked, from the second we start the first song to the end of the show”.
Joyous Wolf is a Rock band from Southern California formed in 2014 by vocalist Nick Reese, guitarist Blake Allard, bassist Greg Braccio, and drummer Robert Sodaro. Reese and Sodaro met on their first day of 6th grade during student orientation. They went to different high schools where Sodaro would go on to befriend Braccio. During that time Reese, by chance, met Allard in the acoustic room at Guitar Center where they would jam CCR’s “Born on the Bayou”. There was an immediate dynamic between the two that ultimately led to an exchange of information. Months later Reese reached out to both Sodaro and Allard with the interest of starting a new project with them. Braccio would soon follow suit.
In the waning months of 2014 early jam sessions would yield the foundation of what Joyous Wolf has become. Fusing together influences ranging from Heavy Metal to Delta Blues, Joyous Wolf creates an expressive, high-energy fingerprint that separates themselves from their contemporaries in the realm of Modern Rock.
